She adds that "we can (Continued page 3) The issue of improvements to the cross-country ski trail in the Orono Tree Nursery west of Ochonski Road at Station Street was discussed at the recent Downtown Business Association meeting. The DBIA stated they were willing to assist in funding of cos to trim-out the trail and other improvements as to better signing. 'Me trail was developed about five years ago but has overgrown in some areas. Roy Forrester was authorized to contact Glenn McLeod, superintendent at the tree nursery, as to the assocation being able to make some improvements. Mr. McLeod said it was intended to make improvements this year as to trail improvements and signage. Mr. McLeod also said they intend to move the gate further west from Ochonski road to make a proper parking area. He said the DBIA could assist in some of the work. The west property has over the years attracted hikers and other users. Interpretative Walking Trail by Carol-Ann Oster A long time mandate of the Orono Provincial Forest Station has been to provide education to the public about the importance of forcstry and proper forestry management to the environment and ecosystems. Klatas Schoenmatker .ete'ct::ed t the office of District Deputy Grand Master>, At the annual communication of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Canada in the Province of Ontario held in July at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Orono Lodge was honoured to have one of their members, W. Bro. Klaas Schoenmaker elected to the office of District Deputy Grand Master. He now assumes the old English Titie of Right Worshipful Brother in the Order and is responsible for the governing of the fifteen lodges which comprise Ontario District. This area is bounded by. Whitby, Port Perry and extends as far east as Colbome. In his travels throughout the District and beyond, Mr. Schoenmaker will be speaking on his chosen theme: "Opening Masonic Windows." As spokesman he wil be emphasizing the openness, vitality and community spirit of Freemasonry. It is interesting to note that during our interview Mr. Schoenmaker stated that Freemasonry is worldwide, he has visited lodges in Gibraltar, Spain, The Netherlands and the U.S.A. and now, with the fall of Communism in East7European Countries, lodges that have been -dormant for more than 70 years have been re-opened and are flounishmng.
