...ÔéWekiy Times,..Wednesday, .September ,22,I99 "Age of Concern"> Column for, Seniors .New.t & Information for Seriors from your "Senior" ai Queen's Park - Gord Müls This week I'm writing about memories. Why not write down your memories. Wben I get Urne, I have started to write my own life story. I believe it would be of interest to my grandcbildren, great-grandchildren and their grandchildren and great- grandchildren. How many Urnes in our own lives do we wish that we had known more about our ancestors. Before the last war I used to go up to London every day with my father during bis one week holiday for the year, to sit in the House of Commons and listen to the politicians of the day debate the issues. In theafternoon we always went to a Woolworth store to have a meat pie covered in gravy, before returning to Brighton. Consequently, I have called my life story "Meat Pie and Gravy". Putting my life down in words bas given me a great deal of pleasure so far. Your story can give you a great deal of pleasure too, and it can bring back many happy memonies. 1We ail have individual tales to tell, and it also lets our grandchil dren know that we were once young, and experienced the saine problems, sorrows and joys as they do today. One way of getting your story together is to divide your life up into five year spans. Then go back to that particular span of Urne and write down the incidents that you remembers. Once you have written thern down read tbem over and then more incidents will corne back to you. First off, don't try to get them in any sort of order, that will corne later on. This pastirne will while away rnany a gloomy winter day and you will probably surprise yourself. . If you are unable to write because of poor eyesight, don't give up. Beg, borrow or buy a srnall tape recorder and speak your tboughts into it. Then get a young person to transcribe it for you. If you have no young people of your own farnily, wby not contact a local school. You rnay find someone there very happy to help you in your project. Your "Memonies" can become a treasure for your farnily. Think about it, and this winter when you wonder wbat there is to do all day long, you bave the answer - write YOUR life stoiy and Good Luck with it. Until next week, remember, "True enjoyment cornes frorn activity of the mind." Book from Crystal Pages IN THE NAME 0F THE FATHER by A.J. Quinneil - This is absolutely one of the best thriller/rnurder/assasin novels that I've ever read; very believable, filled with draina, and a light with touching kindness when one least expects it. Tbe plot involves 'bigher up' Russian leaders and the Suprerne Pontiff, leader of the Catholic Church-. Many intricate reasons are put forth for their respective needs to wipe each other out. It sounds fantastical, but one bas the sense that it really could happen as written. Myths are destroyed, preconceptions lifted, and we are definitely rooting for the good fortunes of the three people wbo appear to have the rnost character in the-book. 1Recycled - Hodder & Stoughton Arson suspected in Bowmanville tire f ire .............................
