As Chair of this new committee I arn looking forward to cutting 'red tape' in getting the concerns of veterans resolved-in the minimum turn around of time. These days I do hear people saying that, "Old so, and so" is really too old to carry out a particular job. To those who happen to think lîke that, how about George Burns who won an Oscar at 80, Jobann Wolfgang comrposed 'Faust' at 83; Konrad Ade nauer was Chancellor of Germany at 87; Coco Chanel was head of ber fashion designer fimin at 88; Albert Schweitzer headed a ho spital in Africa at 89; Mary Baker Eddy was directing the Christian Science Chiurch at 89; George Bernard Shaw wrote the play, "Farfetched Fables" at 92; Betrand Russell was active in international peace drives at 94; atI100 years old, Grandmna Moses was painting. Remeinbcr the "Dambusters?," The inventor of that 'Bouncing bomib' Barnes Wallace was stili invcnting things athfiis dcatb at 92. ~So you can see, flue is rcally worth living, if only we avoid die thi-ngs that grown-up peo(ple say about us. Until next weck - smnile, Ls good for you. Local Model Rai lway show great by Carol-Ann Oster Despite massive cutbacks in recent years te GO transit, VIA Rail and the rail limes in Canada, the low wbistle of the train will always blow across our nation. We can tbank in part the number of model railroad clubs and bobbyists, like the Soper Valley Railroad Club. The Soper Valley Club was responsible for once again bringing the Model Railroad Show wo Bowmanville. -The'show as held this past weekend at Bowmanville High Scbool. In previous years, the show bas bad an attendance of approximately 1,700. This year's show, the 7tb Annual, was enjoying attendance rates at par witb previous years... until tbe power failure. The power failure is, responsible for the lack of photos te accompany the story. l'il try tw do my best with a verbal description. Travelling tbe route of the Soper Valley Railroad exhibit we were witness to a panoramie view. Starting at the station where pepople stand on the platform waiting to hear tbe wbistles, beils and sbowing clackety-clack of the trains, we move into a small village. The village is complete witb general store and various other buildings. Some of these buildings are plastic, available for purchase, at many hobby stores. Others are' scratch buildings. This means that they are built to scale from original building plans. The train ratties' on along tbrough a field, wbere a shepherd keeps a close eye on bis flock of quietly grazing sbeep. Soon, the track will split. Depending 1 guess on your final destination point, you may be greete d by a tbick darkness as you travel tbrough a tunnel- that takes you tbmougb a rock>' cliffs edge. If you enjoy the more scenic view ... the other track travels over a bridge, across a swamp. This route let's you admire the rocks that have worn over the years and (Continued page 12) Carolls Bit (Continued from page 9) ones that can support political parties througb their pocket. We are Canadian citizens, complete with concernis and fears, hopes and dreams. Dismissing us because of our age is discrimination.
