Saturday, March 5 the Sabres hosted Family , Auto overwhelming them with a 6-1 decision. Tamworth got on the board quickly with 3 straight goals on 4 shots just over four minutes into the 'Match. It was Tamworth's big centre, #*9 Pat Dwyer who seemed te have captivated the Orono bench as he posted ail 3 markers (and went on to score one more as well as adding an assist on the Sabres' fifth goal). Orono managcd to shake off the hex long enough to taily one of their goals as centre Tyler Robinson scored at 2:25 of the first period. Assisting on the play were Brandon Caruana and Pat O'Halloran. However 3-1 was as close as Orono could get, as Tamworth added one in the second and two more in the third frame to round out the scoring. Orono neyer gave up on their skating game however as they created several good scoring chances, but just couldn't finish off around the net. Tamworth just edged out Family Auto in the shots on goal department by a margin of 26-25.- Orono knew they had their work cut out for them in game 2 as they hosted the Sabres -Sunday afternoon, Mach 6. Family Auto took the play to Tamworth right away -scoring at the 9:17 of the first period. Orono defenceman Paul Landers fed an uncovered Pat O'Halloran high in the slot area and the Winger let a lazy low wrister go that fooled the Tamworth netmninder. The Sabres tied the game at 1-1 on a power play late in the second period at the 0: 13 mark. Tamworth came on i the third frame outshooting Orono 8-4, but Famîly Auto netminder Ryan Leddy played shut-out hockey the rest of the way! With the score stili tied after three fraines, the gaine went into a ten minute overtime period. Orono caught their second wind and grabbed the go-ahcad goal three minutes into overtime as Tyler Robinson ripped a shot high to the stick side on a setup from Bob Witheridge at 3:00. Orono's goalie #*1 Jeff Siemon kept M&M at bay as Orono was up by 6 goals before M&M put one on Uic board. #12 J.P. Pisani and #* 4 Jessie Price figured in on ail 7 goals scored against M&M with J.P. Pisani scporing 5 goals and 2 assists and 'ie ice scoring 2 goals and 1 assist. # 9 Jcff Dickinson also picked up an assist. The team was glad te have Kienan Williams back for the gaine and he was givon the captains #* 8 for the occasion. Kienan had flot iost any of his skills on defonco and piayed a great gaine. In, the second pcriod Orono kept up the pace and put 3 more past Uic Young Driver's goalie. Scoring in the second was # 5 Aaron Robinson, unassisted; #* 3 Mike Knapp assisted by #* 14 'Ministry begs off barrier for north, ramp from 115 The Ministry of Tranispor- tation bas informed the Northumberland -Clarington Board of Education that the ministry hias investigated the request for a guard rail on the north side of the off ramp with Highway 115/35 southbound with Mill Street in the Village of Orono. The guard rail hias been proposed to protect pedestrians using a proposed sidewalk connected to the existing walk- way to and from the Orono Estates with Mil Street. The Ministry states that the ministry is of the opinion that the location of the guard and the proposed sidewailk is flot within the ministry's right-away. The ministry states that under the circumstances the ministry would not be involved in the Jordan Beacock; and # 17 J.P. Coachos Geraldi, Hall and Mercier packed up'the kids and wbistled off te Woodville on Sa turday, March 5 te piarticipate in the Tri-County Novice Tournanient. Not known what te expect coach Geraldi had them in top forin to represent Orono well. Gaine 1 at 10 a.m. had Orono face a teain from Minden. Orono, opencd the scoring at 6:24 on a goal by # 8 Jeff Mercier, assisted by # 5 Aaron Robinson. One minute later # 13 J.P. Pisani put one in assisted by # 15 Tyler Gregg. The second period opened with # 12 J.P. Pisani netting his second, assisted by # 4 Jessie Price. Minden fmnally put one past # 1 Jef Slemon at 7:11. Orono's #* 12 J.P. Pisani got his bat trick goal wîth 55 seconds remaining, on a pass from #* 7 Brian Chartrand. Minden scored twice, oarly in thc third putting the score at 4-3, but # 12 J.P. Pisani got an insurance goal with 22 seconds remaining te put the finaL score at 5-3. Orono's ncxt opponoent was Wilberforce and the jgame was played at 3 p.m. This game was all Orono's as # 1 Jeff Slemon carne up witb a shut out and the defensive pairings of #* 2 Shawn Dejolm, 1#8 Aaron Robinson, # 3 John Haiik, and #11 i Dustin Wcagant kept it clear in front of thc net. Offensively #* 14 Jordan Beacock had wings on bis skates and # 9 Jeff Dickinson playod a strong gaine. #* 12 John Patrick Pisani scored ail four goals with assists going te # 8 Aaron Robinson, # 17 Adamn Andrews and #* 10 John Haiik. Tbis 4-0 victory sent Orono on te the "A" Championship gaine vs. the home town teain from Woodville. The boys barely had time te wipe their placement of a guard. F The Municipality of Clarington is to budget funding for the the sidewalk that would connect the Orono Estates walk- way with side watk on Mil Lane and te Mil Street. The work would be included in the 1994 public works department prograrn for sidewalk construction including a project in Newtonville to the public sehool. The local Board of Education has provided busing for students in the sub-division to the Orono Public School for the remnainder of the current school year. The service was provided late last year following a petition and delegation to a school board meeting. It is the intent that the busing will provided until such time as the sidewallc is completed brows and change their socks as the game was scheduled for 5 p.m. Orono oponed the scering and was up 2-0 on goals by # 16 Jeff Mercier and # 5 Aaron Robinson. Woodville tied the score at 2 ahl and went up 3-2 with only 45 seconds remaining in Uic gamne. With 22 seconds left #* 8 J.P. Pisani had a brcakaway but was tripped up from bcbind and wasn't able to get a good shot away. Woodville won thc match but truly had te work for it as our boys determination neyer let down. Court decîsion clears way for charge The Northumberland- Clarington Board of'Education is looking with interest te a recent court ruling that bas given school boards the right te charge develepment fées te pay for new school construction. Three Ontario judgcs of Uic Court of Appeal recently ruled eut a docision of an Ontario divisional court whicb had ruled that Uic boards of education did net have the right te, levy such charges. The province through provincial logislation in 1989 had granted the school boards tbe right te set developmont charges te ho Ievied against ncw residential housing construction. The Northumberland- Ciarington Board of Education bas given tentative approval t'O levy such dcvciopment fees te assist in funding of new schools. But even thougb Uic Court of Appoal bas givdn its sanction te the fées there arc are other steps stili te ho taken if Uic local board wishes te put the charge into effect. The ministry of education must now give its approval and thc board would bave te wait te sec if the construction industry will appeal Uic iatest decision of Uic courts.
