Group from Britain to take part in conservati-on work A group of 12 votunteers, eight from Britain and four from Canada, witl be visiting the Port Hope area ini order to participate in an international program of conservation work. The programmn is co-ordinated by the Bristish Trust Conser- vation Votunteer organization in paitnership with Hike Ontario The volunteers wilt be working on two trait networks, the Waterfront Trait and the Ganaraska Trait. The projects will range fromn trait clearing, marking, construction of stairways and footbridges along with mapping of new traits and wildlife habitat impovementS. A committee of local representatives bas been struck wbich does inctude members from the Waîerfront and Ganaraska Trait association, the conservation autbority staff and other interested persons. In order to facilîttate the program of work which the votunteers wilt be performing local assistance is being solicited through donations of housing, transportation, equipment and expertise. Severat approaches have been made for accom- modation with the GÇRCA offering the dormitories and kitchen at the Forest Centre. The project wilt operate fromn JulY 9 tbrough to Juty 23rd. As the project moves ahead the Port Hope committee witl be looking for community support Anyone întereted in assisting in the planning of the event as well as participating in the work program shoutd gel in touch with Kathy Lee at the Ganaraska Forest Centre calling 797-2721. by Ron Locke District Governor, Ralph Foden and bis wife Nancy were special guests at the Newcastle Lions Installation Night held at the Forum Restaurant, on June 22. Other guests included wives and friends as well as Lioness' from the Newcastle Club. Afîer a great roast beef dinner, served by the staff the new siate of officers was installed. President: Amos Langley; lst Vice: Gord Moulton; 2nd Vice: Joe Mendonca; 3rd Vice: Peter King; Treasurer Dave Robinson-, Secretary: Terry Graham; Tait Twister: Roy Hopkins; Membership Chairman: Peter DeJong; Directors: Don Foster, Sam Galea, John Bugetti and Dennis Walker. Two new members were then inducted into the Newcastle Lions Club by a teamn of Lions. Francis Jose and Sam Lemon are now officiai. Lions atthough they have been active in the club for many months. Following this ceremony, Governor Ralph presented Melvin Jones awards to three deserving Lions and one Lioness. Chosen lby their peers to receive these very prestiglous awards were Lion Murray Paterson, Lion Frank Hoar, Lion Roy Hopkins and Lioness Jean Rickard. Before outgoing President, Tony Clements gave up the gavel hc presented President's Appreciation Awards to several Lions, these were, Lions Sam Galea, Don Foster, Kart Kampe, Peter DeJong, Peter King, Dave Adams, George Rickard, Terry Graham, Joe Mendanca, Gord Moulton and Amos Langley. The official Lion's year begins Julyl but the Newcastle Club doesn't begin business meetings untit September.
