Liberals to hold tribute dinner for Russell Honey The Federal Northumberland County have organized a Russel Honey Tribute Dinner to be held on Friday, October l4th. The Tribute Dinner is being held in the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Port Hope on Toronto Road. Russell Honey served the Federal Durham/Northumberland Riding during a period fromn 1962 until 1972. During this period hie served in a number of officiai capacities including Deputy Speaker and Parliamentary Secretary to Mr. Jean Chretian, then Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. After 1972 Mr. Honey was appointed a judge acting out of Belleville. He held this position until just recently when hie retired. Smuggler's wife gets van back The wife of a Port Hope man, convicted of smuggling liquor into Canada has been able to get hier van back that was used in shipping the illegal booze. The wife submitted an affidavit that she was unaware of the van being used to smuggle the liquor. The liquor was worth about $3,000 plus unpaid duty of $535.00. The van is valued at $20,000. A niece of the man bas been fined $1,500 for having more than $10,000 worth of unlawful spirits in storage for her uncle. Spot marijuana from helicopter The R.C.M.P. working a routine check for marijuana plants growing in tie countryside spotted the name "Bifl" cut in the long grass by a mower. On checking closer they observed, 100 marijuana plants near Castieton. A further twenty- five plants were found a few miles away from the one hundred. Charges are not likely to be laid. The R.C.M.P. make such routine checks this time of year.
