4 - Oron~ WeekIy limes, Wednesday, November 16, 1994 Dufferin Aggregate Tykes leave P&P shell-shocked On Saturday, November 12, Orono's DufferinAggregate Sr. Tykes played host to P & P Lift Truck Service in BRUL play, and like the Canadians at Vimy, they rolled over the opposition in a convincing 10 - 0 victory. No prisoners taken. In the first minute of the gaine, Evan Moore -(#9) scored froin Mark Kelly (#8) tie first of four goals on the day for Moore. His second, at the mid-point of the pcriod, was scored on a breakaway from Justin Caruana (#5). Kyle Johnson (#14) made a fine defensive play in this gaine, as in the last, to hustlc back and knock the puck off a P & P player on a breakaway. Mark Kelly (#8) shot successfully on yet another Dufferin brcakaway with a minutc-and-a-half remaining in the period. Dufferin leading 3-0. In the first shift of the second period, Chris Boyce (#4) scored on a long trek froin Doug Garlick (#11) who made the pass froin behind bis own goal line. At 9:16, Evan Moore (#9) acquired his hattrick (unassistcd). At 3:31, Moore scored his fourth goal of the game when he stole the puck behind the net and beat P & F's netininder to the post on the- wrap-around, cnding the 2nd period: Dufferin: 6; P & P: 0. Geraldli Financial Tykes take a bite out of Beaver Lumber On Saturday, November 12, Orono's Geraldi Financial Tykes carved a 7-2 victory over Beaver Lumber, thus capturing their 4th straight win of the season. Orono starts off early in the first, with Ian Knox squeezing one into Beaver Lumber's net, unassistcd. Orono is up 1-0. Zak Snowden gets his first goal of the scason, when hc's right in front of the net and accepts a direct pass froin bis teamnmates, Taylor Doyle and Ian Knox making it 2-0 Geral di Financial. Oronos third goal' was deposited by Joshua Flynn, whcn he took an excellent pass froin Jason Geraldi, and blew it by Beaver's goalie. We are still ii thc first, when Taylor Doyle dekes in a quick shot unassisted, to make it 4-0, Orono. Winding down in the first, and Jason Geraldi is solidly positioned in front of Beaver's net when he streaks one past the goaltender, unassisted and tumoed Oronos lcad up a notch to 5. Sandwiched in between Jason's, goal were two by Beaver Lumber making the score 5-2 Orono at the end of the first. There was no scoring in the second for cither -teai and dcfensively both teains werc, trying bard. Midway into thc 3rd, when thc puck drops, and Taylor Doyle wins -the face-off to take it deep into Lumbcrs zone, and scores making it 6-2. At this point, it looks like Beaver Lumber won't catch Geraldi Financial and Taylor Doyle capitalizes with a back band shot to compluctei hattrick and thc score at 7-2 Orono Tykes. Shane Winters was in net for Orono and provided quality goaltending, while bis teanimates Ian Knox, Matt Baxter, Matthew Bester and Jonathon Koerssen showcd top notch defense as well. Doug DeBoo, Jonathon Gregg, Ryan Knox and Brien Konopka helped manifest Uic win. Riekard Arena on Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m. #9 Kevin Martin was back in the net for Orono and the tram looked ready to play as they hit the ice. It looked like it would be a good gaine for Roughley's as #14 Bria n Pisani scorcd unassistcd on the first shift. Pressure on Uic second shift by Cartcr's Bakcry had 09 Martin standing his ground as he fought off 2 Carter~s players. #35 Freeman Uutch inson and #17 Grcg Dunhain did not give up on this ptay as Dunhain took the puck and also scorcd unassistcd on a brcakaway at 9:25. #16 Jocy Konopka sbowcd great spccd on a rush to Uic net and the 3rd lino of # 16 Konopka, #1 1 A. Bangay and Family Auto run out of g 1as on the road OMHA Pee Wee action saw Orono's Family Auto Leafs visit Sunderland Monday, November 7 for their first league encounter with the Red Wings. Not unlike their two previous road losses to the Millbrook Starsand the Ops Flames, the Leafs played two strong periods of hockey, but seemed to tire in the final frame. The Leafs came out hitting in the first period, ,totally domina ting pay as thcy, grabbcd'a 3-0 lcad. The secon d period was scoreless as the Red W ings seemedto get on track edging, the Leafs 7-5 in shots on goal. The Red Wings surprised Orono, with theirfirst goal just minutes in to the third period. Sunderland caught their second wmnd and came wîthin a goal at the 6:47 mark. Orono had a chance to put the gaine out of reach with just over two minutes left on a Greg Shetier breakaway. However the- shifty centre just hanging on at this point. With just 64 seconds renîaining the surging Red Wings were rewarded with their third goal of the game to salvaging a 3-3 tic for the partisan crowd., Starting Leaf netminder Ryan Ledcty was creditcd with the tic for his club. Friday, November il Orono hosted the Canadiens of the Oshawa Little NUL in an exhibition contest. A rather chippy affair ensued. As has becn the case with ail five prevîous encouniters between Little NUL teains and the Leafs. Orono led 1- 0 after the first period o n a goal, by defeinan Paul Landers, assisted by Bob Wîtheridge and Kyle Beacock. The game was tied 1-1 whcn centre Greg Shetler ripped a 40-footerto the top corner at 14:38 of the third pcriod. The goal was as shorthanded tally nicely set Up by Bob Witheridge and defenceman #3, Kyle MacDonald looked sharp and had somoe great chances to score. #10 Steve Gregg hadt a brcakaway on the goalie but he came up big for the rest of the gaine. There was soi-e solid defence on the blueline by #5 Derek Sellars and #2 Carl Tardiff. Orono would sec their lead cut to 1 as #2 for Carter's scored on a brcakaway at 1:30 and cutto a tic at 6 seconds also by #2. Orono had some good chances in thc second as #8 Paul Richter was robbed by the goalie. #7 Mike had a great shift late in Uic period keeping the puck in and - working hard along Uic boards. It ,lookcd like it would bc a scoreless pcriod but Cartcr's #14 scorcd to go abcad with 58 seconds rcmaining. Despite good defensive tries by #30 Steve Webb, #12 Colin Maitland, #4 Maut Bancis and #6 Tyler Gregg, Orono was unable to contain Carter's #2 who scored 3 -more goals and #14 who notchcd 1 to hand Orono a 7-2 defoat. The mood was quiet in Uic dressing room'after Uic gaine but you have to learn to take defeat and victory. Their next gaine will bc Wcdncsday nigbt at 7 p.m. in Orono. Mike "Knoxy" Knox.
