This team had but one point for the season but seemed to turn it on against Orono. The Jr. C's scored flrst at 12:31 of the first but Orono camne right back at 9:00 to tie them on a goal by Greg Dunham, assisted by Joey Konopka and Stevie Gregg. The defensive pair of Steve Webb and Andy Bangay helped keep the puck inside the Jr. C's zone which allowed Orono to go up 2-1. Scoring from Freeman Hutchings and Mike Teixeira was Kyle MacDonald. Orono kept pressing with Matt Ramnes and Brian Pisani connecting for some scoring chances. Tlie play of the game went to Andy Bangay wlio made a terrific check on a 2 on 1 to kil a Jr. C scorîng attempt. Kevin Martin played well in net stopped many of the-Jr. C's #14's shots but lie could not be totally contained and contributed greatly to, their 4- 2 win over Orono. .Down but not out Orono recruited the help of "Tigger and Teddy" the mascot misfits to go against National Trust the next evening. Orono put the pressure on early with Brian Pisani, Matt Barnes and Stevie Gregg havmng a good chance in the first shift. Tyler Gregg had 2 good scoring attempts early as the defense of Derek Sellars and Colin Maitland guarded the blue line and kept the puck in the Nat ional Trust end. The first shift for Greg Dunham, Dufferin enjoying success in round robin play On Wednesday, April 5 Dufferin Major Tykes hosted Tim's Rent-Ali in round robin play to qualify for the B.R.H.L. playoffs, in a one sided contest. Kyle Jolinston opened the scoring early in, the first from Ryan Campney and Evan Moore. David Landinan tipped in a backhand shot by Chris Boyce with the other assist going to Josh Moffat, and then Michael Fuller made it 3-0 before the period ended when hie knocked in a rebound after Mark Kelly had been stopped on a rush. At 9:20 of the second Chris Boyce raced down the right hand boards and fed a pass across to Kyle Jolinston who was trailing just behind. Kyle snapped the pass home before the goalie slid across. With 1:39 left in the period Johnston was stopped on what looked like a sure goal for his hat trick by a hot goalie who, had just turned aside Mark Kelly's break away effort. With 1l seconds left Kelly was stopped on another breakaway but Ryan Campney buried the rebound to make it 5-0. The mout continuecl in the third. Chris Boyce's shot deflected off the goalie's stick at 10:09 and then Doug Garlick scored from Chris Boyce at 9:18. A minute later Mark Kelly scored on a ba ck hand from Ryan Campney and Garrett -MacDonald. With just over a minute, left Kelly completed the scoring unassisted when lie went in alone on a rush and got away a higli shot that beat the goalie on the glove slide, even though hie had a defenceman draped all over him. Brent Vanstone recorded the shut oui and the final score was 9-0. The following night found Dufferin back at the rink again, but with Rotary as, the opposition. Whule the score was different the end result was the saine. Kyle Jolinston, who had played so well offensively the night before was minding the net on this occasion. Dufferin got off to a slow start and were down 3-0 before they got their gaine on track. Mark Kelly evcned things up as hie scored a natural hat trick te knot the score at 3. Garett Wood gave Dufferin the lead when lie scored on a pass from Doug Garlick. Dufferin managed to kil off a penalty and Kyle Jolinston made an exceptional saveon a screened shot. Shortly after David Landinan fed Mark Kelly te send him in alone as lie gave Dufferin a two goal cushion. Rotary pulled within one as they scored late in tic third frorn a goalmouth scramble. This set, up the nail biting finish as Rotary pulled their goalie for an extra skater in a bid to tie it up. Garett Wood put an end to any chance of that as lie potted one, unassisted, into thc empty net te complete a good, corne from behind effort. Final score Dufferin 6 Rotary 4. Mark Kelly and Garett Wood who betwecn them provided all the scoring for this game were heard to say - Mark "I really wanted to beat these guys" - Garett "'Mis was a good day - 1 even got my work done at school!" Kyle Johnston # 14 On Wednesday Kyle helped te provide the goals for the offense and on Thursday was in the net stopping rubber as lihe backstopped them te a corne from behind effort, showing that lie is a hustler and versatile. Paul Richter and Freemnan Hutchings netted each player a shot at the goalie. Orono's first penalty came at 5:29 to Greg Dunham for high sticking. While shorthanded Brian Pisani picked up the puck in the neutral zone and went in aone and scored'on a deke which completely féoled the goalie., Colin Maitland made the defensive play of tliis gaine as lie made a big check on a National Trust player who would have been in the clear. He received 2 minutes for tripping but it was one he had to take. Early in the second National Trust scored to tie the game but- this would be the only save Kevîn Martin would not make. With less than 2 minutes remaining Brian Pisani once again carried the puck into National Trust territory where lie passed to Stevie Gregg who scored a pretty goal. Up,2-1 Kevin Martin was called upon to make a heart stopping save to keep them ahead. National Trust put pressure on Orono's net but thQÀ-.defenseç,- including Carl Tardiff fought off their attempts. Orono sealed the win at 11:10 as Paul Richter made a picture perfect pass to Greg Dunham who put it higli on the goalie. The last 3 minutes of the gaine were exciting with both sides having great chances but Orono held on to win 3-1. Their record is now 1-1-2 with one gaine on April 19.
