< orono Wee'kly TMmes, Wednesday, September 27, 1995 - 3 Officiai OpeÂing of the Clarington East Food Bank The Officiai Opening of the Clarington East Food Bank will be this Saturdày, September 30, 1995 at 10:00 a.m. at 131 King Street East, opposite Memorial Park wbich is beside St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catbolic Church in Newcastle. Following the openlng those present will be invlted to tour the facility. The first day of regular operation will be Tuesday, October 3, 1995.' The food bank will be open'on Tuesdays, 1:00 - 4:00; Thursdays 10:00 - 1:00; and Saturdays 10:00 - 1:00 or by pre-arranged appolntment. Food Bank Chairman, Rev. Don Stiles cails the opening: "an important day in the ministry to those ini need in our community." The food bank represents an important cooperation of a number of local groups and ditizens who have come together t o provide a neelded service in the community. Rev. Stiles noted that the project has received "abso- lutely no govemrment fund- ing of any lçlnd fromn any source to this point. It has ail been dorie tbrough the generosity of regional churches, busin esses, ser- vice, clubs and individuals. Clarington East Food Heather Rebekah's hold Dedication Service Heather Rebekah Lodge held their first meeting after Sunmer bolidays, with fif- teen officers present and ten members. The minutes of the last mieeting were read and approved. Sister Lamna, Noble Grand then called a recess so tbe faminly of late Sister Edith Gordon could be present for the Dedication Service of- a beautiful portrait*of "Jesus Christ"which was so k indly donated by the famfily in ber bonour. Our late Sister Gordon joined Heather' Lodge, January 9, 1973. Sister Carol Boyd was Noble Grand and Sister Doreen Swan was Vice Grand. During most of the 21 years that Sister Edith was a membçr, she was a faithful member, attending the Lodge meeting regularly, until such time as she took fil, even then when possible, she supported the Order. When able Sister Editb answered every cail for belp, in kitchen, at funerals, and always at the Annual Bazaar. The Sisters wbo knew ber well will always remember ber happy smlfle and gentle voice. She is flot In aur mldst but will always be loy- lngly remembered. We wlsh now to dedicate this portrait of "Jesus Christ" in Sister Edith's bonour. On bebaîf of Rebekabs and Oddfellows we sincerely thank the fam- ly. Each time we enter this Lodge room we will take notice of this picture and remember our motto. Friendshlp, Love and Truth and the Biblical quo- tation, "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you." Sister Violet and Sister Barb will bang the picture followed by a prayer by our Chaplain Sister Barb. "We pray God, tbat tbis gift may be found worthy through your blessings, to beautify this room ta benefit this Ladge and to minister Grace and Joy to those who meet here. The Lard bless us and keep us and give us Peace now and Forever. Amen." The family were lnvited to stay for a cup of tea served by Sister Bertba. The recess over Lodge then continued, Sister Violet reported on the proceeds of the Hamm Anniversary and also the tickets sold at Fair. Birthday greetlngs were extended to three members. Lodge closed according to the Ritual, and a social trne enjoyed by ail. Bank wil serve the areas of Newcastle, Orono, Kirby, Kendal, and Newtonville -- as its names suggests: the Clarington East region. At this time there is stiil need for non-perishable foodstuffs and personal care items. Contributions may be made to the food bank or delivered to any area church. Cash donations may also be made directly to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Newcastle. An information meeting for prospective volunteers to help operate the food bank has been planned for this Friday night, September 29, 1995 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the food bank. Volunteers are stîli needed so interested people who could donate a baif day a month are asked to join us for the meeting or to cail the food bank office at 987- 1418.
