Bowmanville's Memorial- Hospital bas beeni the process of eslablishing a new ieam concept at the hospital. t is called "The Changing Culture", and they are opiimistic that ibis will take the hospital into the 2 1lst century. "The hospital is moving towards service, rather than just medical treatment," says Moyez Jadavjî, Director of Utilization and Corporate Planning. The major objective of this project, co-sponsored by Dupont Canada, a supplier to the radiology department, and the Quality Couneiil of the hospital, is "to get effective teamwork in the hospital which wil refleet improved patient care." The changes that are beinig made are trying 10 irnprove the service ihat patients receive. Things like making the Financial Office and Donations more accessible by moving them near the front entrance for patients and visitors is just a few of the new changes. Presenily, both offices are located near the end of an out of the way corridor on the second floor. Moyez said that they received "input from the staff, (ideas came from) the bottom-up rather than the bot- tom-down." The staff and management worked in teams to recognize the areas in the hospital that could be improved, rather than have management diclate changes to the staff. "A happy staff makes for better servic 1e,", says Moyez.
