..........k.y.... ....e.n.. ........ .... ...... Triple R Dollar Plus ýOrono's own dollar and .on JuIy 2, 1997., Orono got it's very own Dollar Store, Triple R. Dollar Plus. The stores owners, Roy Clapperton and Roni Ward both live ta Orono, and are looking forward to becoming part of the Orono business' cornmunity. Sunce mhovhrg here four years ago they have developed a growhng fondness for the smiall town ways, and the quiet rural setting found ta Orono. Roni had heard s0 many people express a desire for a Dollar Store, that she though they should give it a try. Part TIhe sounds of the singing warbler, thought to be a Tennesse Warbler, has retumned to the tip of the tow- ering Spruce in the backyard. 1As reported before It Isgiv- Ing out with its great arrange- ment of chips, blips, beeps and trilîs which sound filîs the backyard from day-break to rine a.m. 1It is still sornewhat of a rnystery and although It bas been showing itself, on occa- sions, it does spend rnost of the lime hidden amongst the growth near the top tip of the tree. Donna is now playlng an active role in endeavouring to make a positive identifica- tion and spent part of, the Canada Day listening to a tape of warbler singing. She states that of all the warbler songs the Tennesse cornes the closest. She does have doubt of It being the sarne Tennesse version from the top of the Spruce as from the tape. I would have to agree. There is no doubt of it being a warbler but so far see- mng the bird bas been of little help in identification. Anyone is weicorne to rornp around in the backyard i the early mrn-ing to give sorne assistance. The Indigo Bunting You may remember that late this spring there were numerous reports of Indigo Buntîngs vlsiting bird-feed- ers. The numbers were cer- taunly greater than usual.' This was also noted in, other areas., A recent report on a but- terfly survey heîd last week made note of an unusual number of Indigo Buntings also heard in Durham RPegion. Certainly there mnust be a number flush for the bird. Tallying Bush Birde I have made the first survey of bush birds in a spe- ciflc'area of the Ganaraska Forest. I will be vlsiting the saine five stations again wlth- ta the next seven days. The gift store of -the store wlll be devoted to dollar items, and the back will be a crafters display area where local crafters may rent wall-space to seil their crafts. Roy says, "We would like to supply a number of goods that are n ot available in town, at a discount price." Roni and Roy wlll be helped o!ut at the store by Brandoni Ward, while they continue to pursue they careers.:Hope to see you at the store. By the way, the third -R7 is for Rébecca. (Their three year old solution to the mlid-Ilfe crisis). report is: one of rnany that are subrnitted to Guelph University and bave been over a past number of years. There is concemn as to a possible' reduction ln num- bers and species of bush birds. It is an early mrnnnng trip tato the forest and recording the sightings and song Iden- tification of birds at five wlde- ly separated stations for a period of ten minutes. Most of the recordings corne through Identifying the song of the bird. The leaves do cause a problem in making visual identification. Birds" identlfied to this point include the Chestnut- Sided Warbler, the Mourn-ing Warbler, the Black-Throated Blue Warbler, Magnolia Warbler. Oven Bird. Great- Crested Flycatcher, Red-Eyed Vireo, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager, Chipping Sparrow, Wood, Thrush, Acadian Flycatcher, Northem Fllcker. No doubt we wll bave more to report next week.
