Ed lives with his father and mother, Dick and Stella Morton on the 'Dickadel'- farmn, east of Orono on Concession Rd. 6. The Morton's are a very musical family. Dick plays in the Cobourg Concert Band and sang in the Orono United Church choir for fifty years. Stella has been a 'piano teacher to miany local persons and was the organist choir director at Orono United Church for two extended peri- ods. Ed was taugbt piano by his mother, who dlaims he was her best pupil ever! Ed bas developed bis own busy musi- cal career, playing not only piano but drums and provîd- ing vocals as well. He bas been playing professionally for over 20 years and has con- tributed his musical skills to musicals, concerts, dances etc. and is comfortable playing many styles. The House has adJoumned for the sumner, I hope. Let me explain this. Thits past week, we were con- tinutag the 3rd day of debate on changes to the Standing Orders. Let me assure you that Is a lot of talIng (9 Hrs.) from approximately 3:00 p.m. to midnight. We were sup- posed to be complete on the rule changes, except that there was a trlck played to delay the proceedlngs. Al three parties use these tac- tics to delay the government's agenda and thut is fair accordlng to' the rules. However, as we adj oumned at Thursduy midnight, it looked as though, the House will be culed back some time in July. This debate is ail about making the Ontario Legislature more efficient. The Standing Order changes proposed are aimost identicai to the rules used ta Ottawa. Ail three parties wlll bave to abide by the rules, so I per- sonally don't see why ail the fuss. Both of the last two gov- ernments, Uiberal and NDP, made mile changes but some- how they are différent. Having worked ta tadustry for over 30 years, I think we should make more effective use of our time, while at the same time respectlng the rules ta the Ontario Legisiature as they bave ta our nation's cap- ital? Our summer schedule Is as follows. I will be taking three weeks vacation. My wlfe and I wlll be traveling to Halifax, Nova Scotia to visit our son who is serving ta the Canadian Armed Forces at Shearwater. We wfll aiso be vislting London, Wndsor and St. Catherines to establish residences for our three cil- dren for their university next year. Truthfully, I neyer realized some of the privileges that go with this office. However, I certainly will remember as 1 grow old, where 1 was on Canada's 130th birthday.
