A very interesting and informative slde presentation on hardy hybrid lilies - Aurelian (Trumpet). Oriental and Asiatic was given by past president of the Ontario Regional Lily Society Mr. Dick McQueen. These lily bulbs increase in size and produce more flowers each year. They do well in humus soil with a dressing of peat moss. Feed the plant with 15-35-15 fer- tilizer before the flower bud stage and feed using a weak solution of liquid fertilizer once a week to promote a hlgh bud court. When planting bulbs place smialler bulbs 3" to 4" deep in soil and 6" deep for larger bulbs. Cover the bulb with 2" of peat moss, then soil and sprinkle soil with granular fertilizer 15-35- 15. Bulbs may be planted in the fal or spring. Few Asiatics have a fragrance. The Trumipets are scented growing 4' to 8" ti height and it is best to stake plants. The Orientals bloom later in the summer and do require mulching in the fal for wlnter protection. Flower heads should be removed after bloomirg to encourage food back to the bulb to pro- mote a strong. health-y bulb. It does no harm to move lilies anytime during the year. President Carol Mostert reminded mnembers of the photographic competition. Coloured prints to bie submit- ted by Novemnber 15 to Lot-na Atkins 983-5608 or Carol Mostert 983-5326.
