Biessing Travel bused into town and ran smack into a feisty, come-from-behind National Power Skating Team in an action-packed 2-ail tie last Friday night. The major tykes jumped into the iead at 10:37 of the first when centreman Rob Blaker jammed in a shot during a scrambie infront of the net. Defenseman Tyler Elson piayed solid on the bineline making some quick poke checks naiiing the puck in the oppositions zone. Early- in the second period, the 'Travel' team tied the gaine then slipped into a 2-1 lead. But Orono wasn't about to buy a ticket outta town! At 9:40 Brock Dunham picked up a rebound at the side of the net, drew it back and drove it home off a Jevon Staples breakaway to draw the 'power skaters' even. The remainder of the second and ail of the third flew by scoreiess thanks to soiid goal- tending at both ends. Orono's goalie Tanner Johnson was tested midway through the third and came up big--blank- ing a Blessing Travel break- away tour. Tommy Meester, Rob Blaker and Noei Snow al had breaks of their own but were denied by the opposition netminding. Certainly was a great team effort! Final shots:, Orono 8 - Bowmanville 14. Aggregates play .500 The minor tykes had a busy schedule and rose to the occasion with a fine effort on February 21. Orono met Newcastle #3 in an exhibition match. Matt Puddicombe came home wth another shut-out to his credit. Orono won the gaine 3-0. Kyle Barr notched the first two goals wlth an asslst by Brian Knapp. The third goal was unasslsted on a nice effort by Tyler Johansen. On February 24, Orono rolled into Bowmanville to play Bowmanville #4. This was an offensive effort by the teain. Tyler Johansen opened the scoring assisted by Kyle Barr and Brian Knapp. Goal number 2 came froin Jeremy Caruana assisted by Daniel VanderWeer and Nancy Burt. Number 3 was scored by Kyle Barr assisted by Tyler Johansen and Brian Knapp. Kyle Barr scored goal nuin- ber four assisted by Garrett Klompinaker and Ryan Wood. Goal number 5 was scored by Garrett Klompinaker assisted by Jeremy Caru ana and Derek Snow. Tyler Armnstrong with an assist by Shelby Macdonell and Scott Duquette scored goal number 6. Goal number 7 was scored by Kyle Barr assisted by Brian Knapp and Tyler Johansen. Kyle had to dlean the hats off the Ice -- Hat Trick. Final score was 7-2 for Orono. on February 26, Orono went to Newcastle for an exhi- bition gaine. Lucas Martin got the start in net and lost a close decision 2-1. Good gaine Lucas! Nancy Burt scored the lone goal assisted by Jeremy Caruana. Orono flnished off the week playing the No. 1 teain - Beaver Lumber. Orono lost a close one 3-1. Kyle Barr scored the lone Orono goal unassisted. Cary Konopka and Jordan Macdonnell also played some good hockey -for their teain tis week. As the season draws to a close the IGA Peewee House League team had an out- standing season. Both minor and major players on this teain have shown great skill developinent throughout the season. For many of these players this is their flrst year of contact and they continued to handie the play in an out- standing manner. In league play February 2 1, the teain scored a win wlth goals by newcomer Andy Robinson and defenseman Kienan Williams. This gaine was a shutout for goalle Darrell Kennedy but fine defensive work by Kyle MacDonald, Kevin Martin, Mike Knapp. Mike Texeira and Kienan made for a great gaine. 1Although the team took a loss in league play February 22nd there was some awe- some work by the line of Kenneth Lake, Will Lofgren and Shawn DeJong. Lofgren and Lake took goals and assists while DeJong and Williams took assists. Exhibition play against Newcastle in the big snow- stormn February i 7th left the team a littie short handed. Pisani and Lofgren took tumns at defense with Lofgren stili managlng to score. Josh Shephard took an assist on Lofgren's goal. Shephard Is a first year Peewee who is showing muscle in his game. Lake also scored but they couldn't get the win., In exhibition play March 1 in Newcastle, the Lake- Lofgren- DeJong line moved in and took the win. Lofgren scored two goals assisted by Lake and DeJong while Robinson took the thiArd goal assisted by Lake. Fabian Rozario has improved immensely over the year taking shots on net and going for the puck. Jeif Dickenson can definitely play defense and forward, which is a great talent. Jordan, Beacock continues to work Orono Bantam Leafs playoff action... You'll miss hockey at its best if you're flot at the Orono Arena this weekend!
