Pilaygroup meets many needs The Monday mnorning play group took some time out of their schedule to pose for a picture Thoughi their numbers were down this week due to the March Break, the Orono Play Group continues to be a favourite hang-out for miany area toddlers and thieir parents. The gyroup lias been actively mee ting once a week for the past decade, thoughi the faces changye every few years. It lias been the source of mnany lasting friendships for boîli chiidren and their parents. Chidren meet future class mates at the group and parents net-work with eachi other, finding babysitters and other hielpful child related information. Groups like these have been especially lhelpfiul 10 new fai- lies miov«ing- into the area, they are an instant support group to newýNcomers. The Orono Play Group meets every Monday fromn September 10 Junie at the Orono United Chuircli from 9:30 10 11:30 a.m. The cost to joinis $25 a year plus a minimal weekly fee. A few timies a year the group will go on an outing 10 area attractions like the zoo or an indoor play ground. You cari smell the anticipa- tion of spring in thè air but everyone has been keeping busy oubside of class to make the wait seem shorter. In the week that led up to the March Break a group of students frorn the O.S.A.I.D. (Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving) committee organized a hot dog lunch for the school lu raise funds for an up-coming presentation on t-he effects of dinking and driving. Il was a great suc- cess and everyone enjoyed a break from their usual brown-bag lunch or cafeteria fare. The Religion depart- ment and Pastoral Care team also concluded a food and clothing drive for the Ark Youth Shelter in Oshawa. Thqnks to the support of each class the chapel was filled to the ceiling with boxes of donations. The Lenten season began at St. Stephen's xith a beau- tiful Liturgy which was attended by ail students. Students and staff have been creating and reading prayers of Lent to, accompany the National anthem in the momn- ing to remind us of our spiri- tual journey. A number of students also took part in Lenten Reconciliation. A group of mntrepid trav- ellers from St. Stephen's departed last Thursday for a week in London, England. Student participants include: Roslynn Blodgett, Stephanie Burn, Danlela Bruno, Lee Ann Leslie, Amny Schumann, Klmmy Tang, Nicole Therrien, Queenie Yip. Plans for our school's excursion to New York City in the beginning of May are going quite well. There are rumours that Ms. Debbie Harrison, our music teacher, is attemptlng bo arrange per- formances for the members of the Jazz band and Music Ministry who xiii be on the trip. The construction of Vihe set of St. Stephen's firsL ever musical Samson is taking place over the March Break. Rehearsals are going quite well and music from other sources such as Chariots of Fire is still being transposed for the actors, actresses, and pit band.
