Elston's next question was iregards ta the heavy water spill at the plant an April 24. "This spill gaes a long way ta destroy your credibîlity, first we had a spill of 100 litres, then it was 427 litres, how do we know it wasn't 4027 litres? .What will you do ta rebuild that trust? asked Elston. Strickert explained that when the spill was discovered, the information centre was'opened right away. He went on ta explain that "as soon as we found out it was 427 L we sent out a press release and admît- ted aur mistake." The original estimate of 100 litres was made from a puddle on the floor said Strickert. A few questions were asked about the nuclear waste stored on the property at Darlington. Andognini explained that the only waste kept at the facility, are the spent fuel bundles, which are kept in pools of water. AlI other contaminated waste is sent to the Bruce plant for decontamination. In closing Andognini explained that it will take at least two years to see measur- able improvements at Ontario Hydro Nuclear, and five years ta complete the turn around. Chosen for Members Wlio's Who this week was. Sierd DeJong. Lion Sierd was bain in Holland, came ta Canada wlien he was 10 years aid, and went ta sciool at Lakeport, Graftori and Newcastle. Sierd then went ta work at GM and ti recent years lias held the position of traîner of tidustrial power equipment. Sierd married Jackie Garrod in 1964 and they have two chfldren, Derek who is married, and Tammy wlio will be getting maniîed riext year. Sierd lias been a member of the Club for 32 years and lits hobbies are wood working and gardentng. Guest Speaker- Lion Charlie gave a vexy interesting talk on the history of the Goodyear plant from tt's start in the late 1890s ta date. The Lions were then given a tour of the plant by Charîte and Ian McPliee wlio is in charge o f the training room. Lion Charîte was thanked by Brenton lRtckard. Dr. Roy Rowsell, returned a donation that had been given by the club to help, a young Guyanian boy and his parent while recetvirig treatment ti Canada under the Herby Fund. Dr., Rowsell comment- ed that the donation may be required at a later date as another child with a very stg- nificant heart defect may corne to Canada through the Herby Fund. If this can be accomplished some financial help would be greatly appre- ciated. It was also decided that the club will doriate $200 to the Maxire Hutchirigs ti- trust fund for Gregory, who camne from Newfoundland for a ltfe-saving bone marrow transplant.
