4Tmake donati,'on Clubs cç O,îïani&itions Biowmanville Toajstmasters The S alvation Army's Christmas Appeal got a gener- ous boast Thursday evening from the 4T Club.. Marion Tenuant was able to present Isabelle Joues, Famiiy Services Director for the local Salvation Army with a cheque of $211 from funds raised that eveniug. In addition to the monies douated, the club col- lected non-perishable food, mitteus and hats. Isabelle Jones said the dona- tion was so appropriate one day before National Children's Day. Joues explained that besides the Christmas Drive and the Food Bank both of which are very well supported by the club, the Army bas introduced and ABC box. The ABC box is a box full of deiicious nutri- tious snacks given to local schools. If a teacher feels a child is suffering because they are hungry, the teacher can reach into the box and provide that child with some healtliy snacks. Part of the funds raised this Christmas will go towards the ABC Box program. Christmas hamper drive for needy familles Again this year, Durham Children's Aid Society is co- ordinating a Christmas Haniper Drive for childi-en in their care and for needy fam- flies across Durham Region involved with the agency. Chrstmas Hampers include gift items and groceries. Last year, with the generous sup- port of the community, Durham CAS provided hami- pers for 184 families and for 45 Crown Wards. (Crown Wards are children who have been removed from their fam- ilies and are in the care of Durham CAS.) 'T'his tradition of caring for families at Christmas would not be possible," said Sharon Price, project co-ordinator, "without the support of orga- nizations, businesses and individuals throughout Durham Region who step for- ward each year to help." Last year donors lncluded: fami- les hoping to teach their chli- dren that Chrstmas Is -not just about recelving;, dental offices, schools, service clubs, church groups, law offices, and a single mom who used to get a hamper and now wants to help others. 1Donors to the hamper drive can either choose to provide gifts or food vouchers that will be put Into a Christmas hamper, or be matched with a family or child in care to provide a completed hamper of food and gifts. For those not wanting to register, but would like to help, donations of new unwrapped toys, diapers, baby food and formula are always items needed by the Chldren's Aid Society and can be dropped off any week- day at 555 Rossland Road West in Oshawa., g......... .................. .. ................ Chairmnan Toas tmaster Irene Konzelmann kept the meeting focused with her theme "Perception."
