The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) is busy tapping trees, opening up the sugar shack and preparing the fire for Maple Syrup Day. Mark your calendars for an afternoon of fun on Saturday March 27th, 2010 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Ganaraska Forest Centre (GFC). Bring the whole family out for craft making, face painting, guided tours of the Maple Valley sap collecting route, sugar shack sweetness and traditional maple syrup-making stories around a campfire; then settle in for a pancake feast while you enjoy music in the Great Hall of the new Ganaraska Forest Centre. Take part in demonstrations of aboriginal and pioneer syrup-making methods and modern sap collection systems, then visit the sugar shack and learn how an evaporator works. The GRCA is pleased to announce its new partnership with Ganaraska Financial for this springwelcoming event. Ganaraska Financial is a proud supporter of the Ganaraska Forest Centre - Building for Change Campaign. The new outdoor education centre opened its doors in September of 2009 and the GRCA is still working hard to reach the $4-million campaign goal. Pre-registration is not required for Maple Syrup Day but there is a cash-only admission fee of $20 per family, $8 per adult or $4 for children, students and seniors.
