4 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, August 11, 2010 Pollard to headline Jamboree in Orono Crooked Creek's own Mike Pollard has assembled a few of his closest musical friends and associates for a music show which he hopes will become an annual event. Pollard says he has been kicking around the idea of a country jamboree for some time now, and he thought this would be a good summer to start it. The first annual Rural Roots Country Jamboree will take place on Saturday, August 28th at the Orono Arena. Mike Pollard and his band The Unpopular will be the headline band for the Jamboree, with Stetson backing them up. Stetson will also be backing up an open mic session from 1 to 5 p.m. Other performers include Dave Vaillancourt and his Besides being heavily sister Christine from the very talented Vaillancourt involved in the Kendal family out of Oshawa. The Jamboree will meet two objectives: showcase a lot of the great musical talent in the area; and assist the Kendal Orange Lodge. According to Richard Lowery, Secretary of the Lodge, funds are low right now, and the Jamboree will help them in the work they do -- donating to local charities. Tickets for the Jamboree are available at the B/A Variety Store in Newtonville, Terren's Wellness Centre in Orono, the Post Office in Kendal, and Roselinea's Pizza in Newcastle. Advanced tickets are $20, and at the door they will cost $25. Clarington Museums and Archives Historic Bowmanville Cemetery Tour On August 11th, 18th and 25th, at 6:30 pm join Clarington Museums for guided tours of the Bowmanville Cemetery. A costumed guide will conduct a 90-minute tour of the oldest parts of the cemetery, discussing the history of burials, Victorian funeral customs, Bowmanville's historic past and the interesting personalities that made it happen!
