6 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, December 1, 2010 Newcastle BOWLING CARDS REBEKAH HALL EUCHRE RESULTS FOR NOV. 24TH TOP SCORES Orono Midgets finish week off right third period left to play, Orono needed to step it up. Three minutes into the period, Orono did just that by scoring their first goal of the night, making the score 4-1. With less then three minutes left on the clock and an empty net, Mariposa got their 5th and final goal on Orono. Not to be outdone, Orono retaliated by scoring another goal, making the final score 5-2 for Mariposa. Chris Kuijpers and Ryan Bain scored Orono's goals, with assists going to Colin Lamers and Ian Third. Congratulations go out to all the Orono boys who, despite a rough game and a hard loss, made Orono proud by being the more mature team after the game. The Orono Midget rep team was at it again with their usual Sunday home game against the Durham Crusaders. With the first period underway, Orono was looking strong, dominating the game. The boys proved this to be true by scoring the only goal in the first period. As the second period started, Orono was showing no mercy on the Crusaders. With great passes, clean hits and amazing teamwork, Orono scored another goal, making the score 2-0 going into the third. With only 15 minutes left of play, Orono finished the Crusaders by scoring another 2 goals, making the final score 4-0 for Orono. Colin Lamers, Jeremy Moore and Ryan Bain (2) scored Orono's goals, with assists going to Chris Haass, Tyler Meijer, and Josh Canfield. Amazing goaltending is credited to Evan Rosseau. With the team pumped and the first period underway, Orono was ready for whatever Mariposa brought their way. Although the boys held a strong front, Mariposa was able to score their first goal of the night on Orono, making the score 1-0 going into the second. As the second period started Orono just couldn't get in the groove, allowing Mariposa to score another 3 goals on net. The Bowmanville Grays fought hard to break up the shut-out attempt by Brett Diamond, who made a number of tough stops but gave up a lone goal in the third. Meanwhile the Leafs put forward a thorough team effort with eleven players contributing on offence. Goals by Cole Hardy and Brandon Adams, a pair each, were added to singles by Ben Stephensen, Ethan Subotich, Ben LaClair, Charlie Kelly, McKinley Martin, Jerrett Whyte, and Jack Kuijpers. Assisting were Kyle Legace with a pair, and singles by Whyte, Stephenson, Kelly, LaClair, and Calum Wiggans. A strong game by Cody Luciano, Kaiden Whaley, and Cameron Coe helped them enjoy the victory. In the rematch on Sunday, Nov. 28th, the Grays were definitely more determined as they tallied 5 goals in the 3rd period. However, the Leafs netted 10 goals to claim victory. Ben Stephenson was strong in net, stopping several breakaway attempts. The Leafs goals were well distributed with Brett Diamond, Ethan Subotich and Kyle Legace each getting a pair, while Jack Kuijpers, Charlie Kelly, McKinley Martin and Ben LeClair each added singles. Adding assists were LaClair, Subotich, Diamond, Cole Hardy and Legace with three. Having beat the Grays, the Leafs are looking forward to brighter days.
