Renfrew is a model town in several respects, thanks to Editor W. E. Smallfield's progressive progressive ideas and energy, and wqsee by the last issue of his excellent weekly, The Mercury, that Benjfrew Board of. Education met to consider engagement engagement of teachers for another year. A committee submitted a report in favor of the re-engagement, of the entire public school staff, with an increase in salary of $50 to each ' teacher except Principal Armstrong, whose present stipend is $1,800. In our opinion this is the correct method to pursue ancl. suggest it to all trustee boards--not that all teachers should bere-eugaged, however, for it is necessary oftenér than is done to make changes in the interest of children.. PROVIDENCE The Jubilee of Providence Methodist church was fittingly celebrated on June 6 and 7 when the Sunday School held a most successful anniversary. The weather was fine and the large ' tent which • was used for the occasion was filled to its capacity. The preacher for the day was Rev. Robert- McCullough of Toronto, a former pastor of twenty-five years ago, and he delivered excellent sermons. The choir and school did their parts well and everything passed off most satisfactorily. Monday afternoon Salem and Newtonville baseball + eams played a game of ball, the former proving the best team. The ladies of the church served a splendid tea to the large number who attended and enjoyed the good things provided. A good program program followed by Bowmanville Male Quartet--Messrs. T. E. Higginbotham, C. J. Hallman, W. S. Bragg and A. W. Pickard, Mr. T. S. Holgate and Mr. W. S. Bragg, soloists, and Miss Eva Mitchell, Orono, elocutionist, and-the Wight Orchestra Orchestra which gave splendid satisfaction. The Dominion Organ recently purchased will be completely paid for with the proceeds proceeds which amounted to $170. * "Fruil-a-tives" is the Standby in This Ontario Home Scotland, Ont., Aug. 25th, 1913. e 'My wife was a martyr to Constipation.
