Cawker and other relatives. - The McLaughlin Carriage Co., Oshawa, has again shown great generosity to the town by presenting to the Hospital Board, the fine residence on King-sL, formerly occup : ed by Mr. R. S. McLaughlin, to be used as a maternity hospital. _ This gift Is valued at about $25,000, and is only one more evidence of the interest taken by this firm in the interests of the town in which it resides. Lieut. Gilbert Edwards, who went overseas with a Pori Hope battalion, was killed in action on September Ilth, after having been in France for three months. Before enlisting he was deputy reeve of Hope Township, and was well known irr this vicinity as a drover. After reaching England he was promoted to the rank of captain, but. in „_order to get to France sooner took the lieutenant's commission. He iasurvived by his widowed mother and one sister, Mrs. W. J. A 3-davs' campaign is to be carried out in Bowmanville soon to raise $6,000 to pay off the debtlncurred by the erection of the new wing to our General Hospital. We hope to present the claims of the Hospital Board next week in a manner that will enlighten, interest, and we think please our citizens. We bespeak a very hearty and generous response to the Board's appeal. It should not be difficult to raise $6,000 if every person gives a subscription subscription in accordance with his or her means. We have now a splendidly equipped equipped hospital. The Warder had a visit . Saturday from Major F. H. Bounsall, Bowmanville, who motored to town to take in the big fair,- and is guest of his . brother-in-law, Mr. Alex. McKay. It is 45 years ago since Major Bounsall first attended Camp with the old 45th Regiment and the camp that yéar was held at Picton, and it was here that he first met '«Bruno^-Bates and other old Lindsay militia men. Major Bounsall has only one son, but he has been wounded twice and is now in a hospital in England canvalescing. Major called on. his old school teacher and life-long friend, Sir Sam. Hughes, Saturday evening, who was delighted to see him. He is remaining in town until Tuesday and intends to attend the meeting of Lindsay Preceptory, Royal Black Knights of Ireland, to-night, when the Grand Master will be present.--hind- say Warder.
