The Newcastle Senior Citizens' Bowling League ended ended the season Thursday, April 23rd, with a pot luck supper at the home of Albert and Myrtle Pearce. Twenty-one persons were in attendance. After the supper hour, the evening was spent in playing progressive euchre. Prizes for the Dowling were won by Jenny Hicks, Kay Kimball ana Bertha Fisher for the women. Best men bowlers were Stan Allin, George Buck- ley and Walter Murphy. For the euchre, prize winners were Harry Collinson, Jack Holmes, Madeleine Buckley and Eva Smith. We wish to thank Stedman's, IDA Drugs, Pauline's Specialty and Toms &Sons for donating prizes. The Senior Citizens will hold their regular meeting a week earlier on May 14th, due to the bus trip on the usual Thursday night. Mrs. Jill Christie and Mr. Dean Friedlander, Toronto, were weekend guests of their, mother, Mrs. Raye Friedlander. Friedlander. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Barr, Mrs. Pauline Storks and Mrs. Wilda Johnson attended a party in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cureatz at the Holiday Inn, Oshawa, on Saturday evening. St. Francis of Assisi C.W.L. by Pat Kidd The Anglican Church Hall was chosen for the regular monthly meeting and the closing closing of the membership drive for St. Francis of Assisi C. W.L. With a very pleasing attendance, the meeting was opened by President Joan Murphy and prayers by Father Tom Walsh. Sister Susanne of Peterborough, the guest speaker, showed films and gave an interesting talk on the role women can play in social justice. Mrs. Tschinkel of Newcastle entertained, singing German folk songs, while playing her hundred- year old guitar. The meeting was brought to a close with the serving of a delicious lunch and coffee. Kim returned returned home the latter part of Newtonville Mr. and Mrs. A. Ton returned home on the weekend after spending 3 weeks with friends and relatives in Holland. Mr. and Mrs. Reid Wood were among those who attended a 75th birthday party for Mrs. Marion Austin at Canton Hall on Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Roman Szkilnyk have sold their home in Pinewoods Estates and will be moving to Oshawa this week. Mr. and Mrs. Priest of R.R. 2, Pontypool, have also sold their home on the Manvers- Cartwright boundary and will be moving this week. Plans are well underway for the 4th Annual Manvers Art and Crafts Show and Sale which is taking place on Saturday, May 30th, and Sunday, May 31st in the Manvers Arena. There are still a few empty booths, but it is hoped that they will be filled shortly. The show at present is lacking in painters.
