King Garden Restaurent Defeat Peterborough On Sunday, August 22nd, the King Garden Restaurant Senior Soccer team travelled to Peterborough, to take on the Peterborough First City Soccer team, in Motor City Soccer League action. Previous games between Cameron Runs for Region 'x'." the two teams saw Bowmanville Bowmanville take a 1-1 draw in regular league play, and a 1-0 victory in the quarter final of the Labatts Cup. The game was played in a heavy rain which made ball control extremely difficult, but the Bowmanville squad mastered the conditions quickly and took a 1-0 lead from a well directed shot by Willard Tendam which gave the Peterborough keeper no chance. King Gardens continued to press strongly throughout the first half, and passed the ball around extremely well. Peterborough's Peterborough's chances were kept to a minimum by good mid- field play from Geoff Gavey and Wally Seto, and strong defensive work by the defence of: Jimmy Pocock, Mark Mathews, Bernie Lewis and Bill Espie. Twenty minutes from half time, Bowmanville increased their lead from a corner kick. The ball was floated over from the left wing and Paul Ford made no mistake in putting the ball quickly into the net. When the second half began, the Peterborough team applied strong pressure but were kept off the score sheet by goal keeper Alan Mathwich who pullea off several good saves. Fifteen minutes from the final whistle, Peterborough pulled back to within one, after a long hard shot from the right wing changed direction as it hit the wet grass and slipped underneath goalkeeper goalkeeper Alan Mathwich. However, the King Garden's men continued to apply pressure pressure and were almost rewarded rewarded with a goal from a free kick outside the penalty box after Jerry Mackay was brought down. Strong team effort and a lot of desire to win gave the Bowmanville squad two points, in a match that was entertaining to watch despite the torrential downpour. Twist and shout. Move it all about.
