ORONO and DISTRICT NEWS Again a large crowd viewed the Imperial Hell drivers on Saturday evening and enjoyed the fast and precision driving of the drivers. Breath-taking side by side driving and driving driving over ramps, crashing over old cars, etc. captivated the excited audience. An added feature of this evening was a display of new Ford cars, trucks, etc. from Victoria Motor Sales of Cobourg. The owner is a local grown resident, Mr. Ronald Best, and son of Horace and Marjorie Best of Cob Hill. A dance in the Arena topped off Saturday's list of events. Sunday's program again received a sell out crowd and every department proclaimed a distinct success. In the various departments, - reports from the Poultry dept., were a record entry of 700 entries and of exceptional quality, with little or no moulting, moulting, which can be a negative fact this time of year. The Holstein depts. report an average entry but again of excellent quality. The sheep depts. registered again some of the best quality of sheep in the country, with as always entries from the large sheep breeders in the area, .the Ayres and Glaspells. The rabbit display was as always a popular place in the younger set, and boasted over 400 entries. Old McDonald's farm drew a very appreciative audience and featured puppies, rabbits, and even "Three Little Pigs", (two white ones and one little red), no doubt off to market someday! Mary's little lamb, and cute little billie goats had the children and' others cuddling and petting the little animal. The inside depts. were all well displayed, with the vegetables vegetables down somewhat, the apples very colorful, the flower depts. were exceptionally exceptionally large and many excellent excellent arrangements. The baking depts. were somewhat smaller than other years, but of excellent quality. Needlework Needlework had excellent entries but the amount of entries down somewhat from other years. On Sunday afternoon it was announced that the attendance attendance had gone over the 20,000, so quite a tribute to the hard-working committees. The winner of the Kidney Foundation Lucky Draw was Mrs. Ken Ball, at the fair. The lucky winner of the Orono Skating Club Draw was Mr. Gordon Watson, Orono. Jones for his splendid service and solo, which was much enjoyed by all. Orono United Church News Orono Horticulture held their annual flower service on Sunday, September 12, with Rev. John Jones, Bethany as guest speaker, and also guest soloist. Two pots .of golden mums were placed in memory of the late Howard Bellamy, by his wife and family, and one container in memory of the late Lowell Gatchell. The psalm selection was led by Mr. Cor. Mostert, a director of the society, and Mr. D. Harrison, the president welcomed all and invited everyone to take some flowers to a sick friend or neighbor who is shut-in. An excellent sermon "You've got a garden, start rooting and weeding," gave the audience many thought provoking ideas. The speaker stated that many of the really important social events, that have improved our daily lives, down thru the years, have had their garden base in the church.
