A minute's silence was observed in memory of Mrs. L.C. Snowden our organizer and first president who died at 92. A poem entitled "Autumn" was read by Pres, after which 'the Ode' was sung and the Lord's Prayer repeated in unison. The Roll Call 'A place I have visited which was of educational value to me' was answered by all present. It was decided to donate $10 each to the Erland Lee Home in memory of Mrs. C. Greenham and Mrs. L.C. Snowden whose names will be inscribed in the Book of Memory. Announcement was given of the sewing course for children's clothes to be held at. Maple Grove September 23rd at 2:30 and 7 p.m. The area convention will be held at the Royal York in Toronto on Nov. 2nd and 3rd with Mr. Lloyd Wilson as guest speaker. Mrs. S. Doyle will be our delegate to convention. Mrs. G. Moffatt presented Mrs. R. Buber, our newest members, with the W.I. pin donated by Mrs. L.C. Snowden's family. The Short Course 'Food for all Seasons' will be given at M.G. Hall on October 18th at 8 p.m. Mrs. H. Cryderman gave the "Good Neighbours" report and $10 was given for stamps, Mrs. G. Moffatt told a bit about the 85th Anniversary Convention held at Constellation Hotel in Rexdale when the A.C.W.W. Pres. Mrs. Ziny Westebring - Muller was guest speaker. Mrs. G. Moffat, Mrs. H. Prescott, Mrs. H. Bradley - Mrs. W. Brown attended the Anniversary from our W.I. Mrs. W. Polak and Mrs. E. Burke agreed to plan the 25th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. C. Swallow at C.E. Hall on Sunday, October 24th. Mrs. A. Vandergaast asked for donations of sandwiches and squares for our October 4th meeting when Newtonville and Kendal W.I.'s will be guests. Mrs. G. A delicious variety of dishes was enjoyed by all. Ann Pleasance and Carol South- well entertained with a short skit and then led in the worship worship service. President Marion Hoar welcomed everyone back from a relaxing summer and to Pastor Joe LaFave and his family, a welcome to our church. We were very pleased to have Kay attend our meeting. The business period was opened with the poem "September". "September". Reports were heard from the various committees. There are marked containers in the CE ' wing to place stamps, Dominion Store tapes and Canada Packers labels. A donation was given to the 4H club. A letter was read from Rev, Ralph Hills who is ministering in Zambia with his family. At the October 13th meeting we are having a "Spoon Shower". These will be sent to Ralph to use at his mission. The committee was thanked by Marion and an enjoyable evening was brought to a close, The motto "Education is with us all through life" was commented on by Mrs. W. Laird. She said "one definition of education is to draw out the power of the mind" to teach or instruct. Education is a voyage through life and we never reach our destination. Many skills can help to smooth out the rough spots on our journey. We learn how to use our time, skills in management and to set priorities. Let us always have the desire to learn. Mrs. H. Prescott showed slides of a trip to England that she and her husband took* in May. Several slides were shown of places in London, Devon and on a bus trip through Wales, etc. of the beautiful flower show in Chelsea. Mrs. H. Smit moved a vote of thanks to Marjory for her most interesting commentary and pictures of their trip. Meeting closed with the repeating of "the Collect" and the singing of "O Canada". Lunch of muffins, jam and jelly, tea and coffee were served by the group in charge. Durham College Appoints New Administrator Merrill Cook, who recently assumed the post of Durham College Comptroller, has now been appointed Administrator and Secretary-Treasurer to the Board. Mr. Cook was formerly the Director of Finance and Secretary Secretary General for the Eastern Eastern Townships Regional School Board in Lennoxville, Quebec. He served in this capacity for 14 years.
