Among the many guests from this area were his mother Mrs. Tom Hodge and his brother Tommy. Congratulations to Roy and Harold McLaughlin who won second prize at the Ploughing Match pitching horseshoes. This was quite an accomplishment as there were eighteen teams entered. Many from this area attended the Match which was held near London. Other took in Bobcaygeon and Markham Fairs on the - beautiful weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Larmer visited their son Paul at his new apartment in . London after touring the Ploughing Match. On Saturday Mrs. Elsie Hooey was honoured with a birthday party tea co-hosted .by her daughters Margaret and Joyce. Many friends called at her home to Wish Mrs. Hooey a happy birthday. birthday. Congratulations. A very pretty wedding took place in the United Church on Saturday when Rev. Dale Davis had the privilege of conducting the marriage service of his youngest daughter. Two bus loads along with a couple of car loads of Cartwright Cartwright High School students and their teachers enjoyed travelling to Stratford where ' they attended the play Merry Wives of Windsor. Peter Gotham of England is spending a vacation with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bemie Gotham. His grandmother is still here and they will return home to England together at the end of this week. A hockey meeting was held at the arena when a number of interested parents formed a new Hockey Association. On Thursdy evening some of the students from Cartwright Cartwright High School attended ' an 1 enjoyable play put on by Oshawa Little Theatre. The title of the play was "Bedroom "Bedroom Farce." Aileen Mountjoy Byers, Jean Manning Mountjoy of Blackstock, Ethel Abbs Watson of Bowmanville and Barbara Waller Greer of Oshawa attended a reunion of the 1939 Toronto General Hospital Nursing Class- It was held in a classmate's apartment with 16 members present, where a lovely noon luncheon was served and some of the trials and errors of in-training days relived. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Mountjoy and family members and friends attended the wedding of their son Gary to Carolyn Knowles daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Knowles of Whitby, on Saturday October 2, at 4 p.m. in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Whitby. The reception and dance was held at the Thunderbird Golf and Country Club, Ash- burn. The happy couple left for Jamaica on their honeymoon honeymoon and will reside in Oshawa where they are employed by General Motors, Community Care Is an Agency of The United Way Community Care - Another worthy agency of the United Way. Community Care is a nonprofit nonprofit organization of over 930 volunteers designed to provide home support to the elderly and disabled. The organization, which is supported by the United Way, works out of seven offices in \ the _ Durham Region and presently serves over 2,200 people on a regular or emergency emergency basis. Volunteers for Community Care provide transportation for medical and shopping trips, do light housekeeping, yardwork and home repairs, security checks, letter writing, or simply pay friendly friendly visits to the elderly and disabled. Forty-three per cent of the costs of running Community Care in Newcastle, Whitby and Oshawa are paid through the United Way whose annual campaign began on the 28th of September.
