Stargazing Outing Planned at Enniskillen Conservation Area Space, "the final frontier", has been receiving a great deal of attention lately at the local cinema. Blockbusters like "Close Encounters", "Star Trek", "Star Wars" and "E.T." (as well as "Space Invaders", etc. on the home video market) have generated a great deal of public interest. But all of these films and games haven't really taught us very much about space. One popular fantasy is set "in a galaxy far, far away". Did you know that you can see just such a galaxy by stepping outside on a clear night and looking up? All you need to know is exactly where to look. To find out, why not come stargazing with the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority? On Tuesday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m., a C.L.O.C.A. nature interpreter will lead a stargazing outing at Enniskillen Conservation Area. The outing will begin with films, refreshments and an introductory talk at the barn. Afterwards, the group will move outdoors for a look at the stars and constellations. This' will also be an opportunity to look for some of the wildlife that prowl this area by night. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please dress warmly and bring along binoculars, if you have them. Some homerooms are planning Christmas parties, or gift exchanges. Others are simply waiting for enough snow to be able to ski again. Yet school activities continue. On November 12th a group of parents, teachers and students went to Toronto to see the play Quiet in The Land. This play focused on the life of the Mennonites during World War I. At that time there was a conflict among the Mennonites about whether they should participate as soldiers, or just stay in their peaceful communities, serving God. By going to this play, some of us in grade twelve killed three birds with one stone. Not only will we be able to apply it to our English class where we are reading the book Peace Shall Destroy Many, which discusses the life of the Mennonites, Mennonites, but also History where we will study approaches approaches to war and violence, and Man in Society class where we will have a unit involving community life, Each year the Student Councils of the Christian High Schools in Ontario, have a Conference in St. Catharines, on the 26th and 27th of November.
