(Intended for last week) I would like to wish everyone everyone a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year. Those of you who have not done your Christmas shopping yet are really cutting it fine. Good luck and patience if you are going shopping between now and Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Wes. McMahon enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner and provided entertainment for the Bowmanville Bowmanville Senior Citizen's Christmas party, held in the Lions Centre on Tues. Evening Evening Dec. 14th. Wes contributed piano solos, Jeanne did some vocal solos and she and Mr. Lewis Wood played a few piano and violin duets. Mr. Wood also joined in to sing one chorus and whistle another of one of the tunes played. A welcome guest with the McMahon's was Miss Laurie Ann Skitch, from Millbrook, who was formerly a talented piano pupil of Jeanne's. Miss Skitch is now enrolled in the first year of her education course at Trent University. We extend best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mrs. Carolyn Porteous who was in St. Joseph's hospital and should be home by now. The Bethany Sr. Citizens ended their 1982 season with their annual roast beef Christmas Christmas dinner catered by the Bethany Women's Institute, on Wed., Dec. 15th at 12:30. Grace was said by the Rev. John Brownhill, and a few remarks on how this is his first Christmas at Bethany and Pontypool were said by the Rev. John Jones. Then the president, Mrs. Georgina Scott brought up a few items of business like a thank you note from Electa Smith who was able to be present ■ for the meeting. Christmas cards were received received from Vera Smith, Parish Hall Committee, and Peter and Lucy Borrow. Also, the sad news was heard that Mr. Harvey Ginn, a former resident resident of Bethany, had passed away. There was bowling for the last time this year on Dec. 21st. A New Year's Eve party is going to be held in the Parish Hall with cards, bingo and lunch. Francis Jackson was program program convener and Audrey Gilmour and Ruth Jennings were playing the violins and Lillian Fallis was at the piano. They played some very lively music before and after the dinner. Ruth Jennings, assisted assisted by Rev. Brownhill and Rev. Jones led in a sing-song. Mr. Jack Marshall played several pieces on the piano and Mr. Art Marshall accompanied him on some of them with song. Jean Argue then gave a very interesting reading, "The Chimes Rang" and alter that, the seniors were entertained by a skit entitled, "The Door Stop". Three members were involved in it and those being: Ruth Jennings, Mrs. Jones, Georgie Scott - her daughter, Edith and Iva Porteous was Mrs. Brown. The door stop was a surprise gift and the play involved guessing what the surprise gift was. The Marshalls entertained some more, with Amazing Grace, Let It Be, and How Great Thou Art, before leaving leaving to entertain elsewhere. Wicker Christmas decorations decorations were presented to Audrey Gilmour, Ruth Jennings and Lillian Fallis for all the help they have provided throughout the year. A plant was presented by Francis Jackson, to the president, Georgina Scott. Jessie Fisk sold tickets to a draw for an afghan and the book, Vets Might Fly. The afghan was won by Mrs. M. Gillis, Millbrook, and Bertha Ferren won the book. Mrs. Olive Lager, Mrs. Jean Belch, and Mrs. Maynard, (whistling) made up a Hawaiian group that came from Peterborough and gave several selections on their guitars. They ended the afternoon afternoon program with "Silent Night". Special thanks goes to Francis Jackson for her efforts in making a delightful program.
