The Blessing of the Crib and the Lighting of the" Christmas Candle began the Service. The Wardens surprised the Rector and Mrs. Haldenby by giving them a present for their 40th wedding anniversary. On Christmas Day there was a Service at 10 and on Sunday there was a commemoration commemoration of the first martyr since Stephen, at all the Services. The choir sang There's' a Song in the Air. United Church News At Newcastle United Church on Christmas Eve, a Service conducted by Rev. Donald Stiles, told of the expectation, preparation, realization and celebration of the birthday of Jesus or Christmas. Don Stiles, Sheila Stiles and Charles Ewert read the Scriptures. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chard, Delann and Johnna lit the Advent Candles and the Christ Candle. The singing of carols was enjoyed by the congregation. On Sunday, Dec. 26, Rev. Obituary GEORGE MULLER, SENIOR A resident of Pontypool for 25 years, George Muller, Senior, aged 73 passed away in Peterborough Civic Hospital, on Tuesday, December 7th, 1982, after a four month illness of lung cancer. He was born at Szakadat, Hungary, and educated in Hungary, and was the son of John and Theresa Muller. On January 30th, 1933, he married Susan Dehlmauer nee. For 23 years he was a self employed farmer. He had previously resided at Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Germany. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, St. Thomas Moore, Millbrook and Pontypool Pontypool Parish. For eleven years he served in the Hungarian Huzars (Cavalry). Left to mourn his passing are his wife Susan, son George, daughter-in-law Darlene and grandson Sean. Father Richard Walsh, St. Thomas Moore Parish officiated officiated at the funeral services held on Friday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bowmanville. Funeral music was by Jim and Fran Rathcliff of Pontypool. Pallbearers were Messrs. Blackstock was the scene of many Christmas concerts and services this past week. On Monday and Tuesday afternoons two different concerts concerts were performed at the Public School. The Senior Students performed on Monday Monday and the Junior Students on Tuesday. On Wednesday evening Linda Bradburn, Superintendent of the Sunday Sunday School, was in charge of the Sunday School Concert Candlelighting Service. The audience was entertained by a variety of skits, carols and musical numbers. Following the concert refreshments and a social time were provided provided by the U.C.W. On Friday evening, the United Church was' the setting for, the Christmas Eve Carol Service. Reverend Dale Davis led the congregation in a variety of carols. Arlene Malcolm, Ken Crawford, Dale VanCamp and Peggy Larmer each gave very thought provoking reading on the Christmas Story.
