Hockey in Ontario has been narrowed down to four teams in the hunt for an all Ontario Championship. The Lindsay Trent Muskies winners of the Central Ontario Jr. C. League eliminated the Wellington Dukes winners of the Quinte St. Lawrence League ,in four straight games. The concensus of opinion from most hockey people being that if Wellington had played in the Central Ontario Jr. C. League whichi has ten teams already, they/ would have been the eleventh place team. Needless to soi they were little opposition ti the Lindsay team. With th series win over Wellington l the quarter finals Lindsay m now advanced to (he 11 Ontario semi-finals agajst the Penetang Jr. Kings ÿo were winners over Bradjrd Blues of the North Centra»r. C. League. / The best of seven sfies between Penetang, thehor- thern winners, and LiÜsay opened Friday, MarchiS in Lindsay with Lindsay Wining 8 to 7 after less thf two minutes of sudden deat overtime. overtime. The second gaib was played Sunday Marc 1 ; 27 in Penetang with the fuskies winning a 10 to 6 shot out to take a 2 too games ltd in the series. The third gate of the series is slated for Thursday March 31 in Penetajg aid the fourth game in Littlsa/ Sunday Sunday April 3. There is a dstinct possibility that lindsiy will eliminate Penettng ii four straight games. / / _ The other two team involved involved in the best of seen semi finals are the Lemington Flyers of the westeii league and Dunnville of (he mid western league. Tls series started Monday Mrch 28 in Dunnville with ga|e two in Ldmington, Thursday March 3lSame three in Dunnville on Afil 2 and game four Sunday Aril 3 in Leamington. Many of the so called exerts exerts predict it will be Lea- /ington and Lindsay for the ,11 Ontario final and take your hoice as to who will win the lèries. The only two defeats the Lindsay Trent Muskies suffered suffered this year to date were inflicted by the Bowmanville Eagles. Maybe thepeople that forecasted the Eagles as fourth in line for the Ontario championship were not that far out of line. We in this area should be pulling for the Muskies to win it all as Lindsay Lindsay has been close several times but never managed a championship. Also they are very worthy reps of our Central Ont. Jr, C. League. Triple F Bowling High Triple Ladies - M. Broersma 644. High Triple Men - M. Rozema 725. High Average Ladies - H. Vandergaast 192. Team Standings M. Griffioen 53, W. De Lange 51, H. Wanderers Stage Comeback to Tie Bowmanville Cleaners 2-All Strong forechecking and sound defensive hockey enabled enabled the Darlington Wanderers Wanderers to skate to a 4 -1 win over the Bowmanville Cleaners, Thursday night in Newcastle. Bob Howes led the Wanderers' attack with two goals, Boyd Knox and Pete Schoondcrbuk each had a single. For the Bowmanville Cleaners, Terry Baker scored the only marker, as the Cleaners could not crack the Wanderers' sound defense. Whenever the Cleaners did get in on goal they were stopped stopped by Bill Killens' excellent goaltending in the Wanderers' nets. The win for the Wanderers now has the best of five series standing at two games to one in the Cleaners favor. The next game in this scries is Sunday night at the Darlington Darlington Ice Palace. Fifth Wheel Atoms Squeezed Out of Woodville Tournament Once again the cafeteria at Bowmanville High School was packed on Saturday night, this time for the Community Services Atom banquet. Many trophies were handed out to deserving players and teams, with 'Sam' Thompson acting as Master of Ceremonies. The 'A' championship trophy was presented by Joe Kennett to the Lange's Photo Lab coaches, Jerry Johnson and Wayne Pleau. On Sat., March 19th the 5th Wheel Atom Toros travelled to Woodville to compete in a one day Atom Tournament. The first game of the day was against a very determined determined Millbrook team. By the end of the second period the Toros were up by the score of 3 to 1 on goals by Paul Woodlock (two) and David Ralph. The third period was all Bowmanville Bowmanville as they scored four unanswered unanswered goals to win it 6 -1. Again Paul Woodlock did the damage by scoring three goals and one assist, with Jeff Rohr netting the other. This advanced the boys to the championship round against the host Woodville team. This second game proved to be all Toros as they opened the scoring early in the first period and continued to play very well as they built a 6 - 0 lead into the third period, The home team scored very late in the game to spoil the shutout for Robert Romano. Scoring for the Truckers was handled by Paul Wood- lock (two), David Ralph, Jeff Rohr, Andrew Day and Marc Peirce with assists going to Mike Colbourne, • Jeremy Laird, Jeff Rohr, David Ralph, Jeff Acheson, Paul Woodlock and Marc Peirce. The Toros advanced to the championship game against the Oshawa Red Wings. This proved to be the best game of the day, with good end to end action, excellent goaltending from both teams and lots of excitement. Each team exchanged exchanged goals in the first period. The second period went scoreless. Both teams scored three in the third to end in a 4 - 4 tie. As we prepared for overtime, overtime, the referee informed us that Oshawa had won the championship because they had scored the first goal of the game. This left the Toros with no awards in a tournament in which they had not lost a game. Pretty Shabby ! Scoring in the final game were Brooke Clemens, Marc Peirce, Jeff Rohr and Paul Woodlock with assists by Brett Rosnak and Paul Woodlock. Visit Millbrook On Sun., March 20th the Fifth Wheelers went to Millbrook Millbrook for an exhibition match. The host team may have been seeking revenge from their loss to the Toros in the tournament tournament the day before, but this was not to be the case. The Truckers scored three in the first with the host team scoring scoring two to make a close game, but we scored two more in the second and two in the third to finish with a 7 - 2 win. Paul Woodlock scored three, Marc Peirce two with singles to Andrew Day and Jeff Rohr. Assists were earned by Danny Aiken, Brooke Clemens and Jeremy Laird. Host Ajax On Tues., March 22nd the Toros hosted Ajax for a first time this year meeting. This was a fast, exciting game with excellent goaltending, especially especially for Ajax. Although the local boys were defeated 4 - 0, the score of the game did not reflect the play. Seems the guys had trouble putting the puck in the ocean. Our next outing is the Collingwood Tournament from March 25 - 27. Scotts' Chicken Villa Novice Toros went to the Huronia Tournament at Collingwood where they reached the Consolation Consolation Finals against Peterborough Peterborough - a Triple 'A' Team. Scotts' Toros started out slow in the tournament against Thorold on Friday night and lost 1 to 0. Jamie Rekker, our goalie, won star of the game in a close match. Saturday morning, Scotts' Toros faced a team they had never beaten all year - Stouff- ville. The Novice Toros put aside the past losses to Stouff- ville and came out charging to find themselves up 2 - 0 after two minutes and 33 seconds into the game. One minute and fifteen seconds after the start, Corey Strand passed the puck up to Todd Cannings who flipped flipped a backhand into the net. One minute and thirteen seconds later, Steve Desmedt put Scotts' Toros ahead 2 - 0 after Jeff White and David Real passed him the puck. A minute and forty-one seconds into the second period, Stouff- ville closed the gap to one goal on a short-handed goal. Jamie Rekker held Scotts' Toros in the game until four minutes into the third period, when Matt Dykstra got the insurance insurance goal with Todd Cannings assisting. Todd Cannings was star of this game which ended 3 to 1 - a sweet win indeed! Scotts' Novice Toros moved into the Consolation Finals on Sunday against the Peterborough Peterborough Petes - a Triple 'A' team. The Toros were certainly certainly in the game in the first minutes with three fine chances to score but Peterborough's Peterborough's much stronger team gained the upper edge and were ahead 1 - 0 after the first period. This was a very respectable showing by our Novice Toros. Jamie Rekker stopped many shots throughout throughout the game but Peterborough's Peterborough's superior strength came through and they finished finished the game up 7 to 0 against the Novice Toros. Matt Dykstra Dykstra earned star of this game. It is unfortunate that Collingwood Collingwood would allow this and another Triple 'A' team into their tournament as it left no chance for any other teams to win. 4th Annual Non Contact Weekend Tournament By Bob Burke The Bowmanville Non- Contact Hockey League will be holding their 4th Annual Tournament this week, an expanded expanded one, with twenty teams from Southern Ontario, Thursday evening at Orono, Friday at Orono and Newcastle Newcastle and Saturday at Orono.
