On Friday, April 1,1983 the Toro Minor Atoms sponsored by Checker's Variety journeyed journeyed to Buffalo, N.Y. to participate participate in a weekend tournament. tournament. They came up against a r team from Midland which was pretty stiff competition. Our goalie, Jason Hiscock made several fine saves. However, the Midland boys were excellent excellent skaters and were able to slip nine unanswered goals into the Toro net. In a much improved effort on Sat. morning, the Toros' opposition was a Minor-Major team from Ridgetown. The Toros dominated the play during the first period and had several chances on the Ridgetown Ridgetown net but failed to secure a goal. The Ridgetown boys were able to get three goals in period one. Period two saw the opposition get another two goals but Bowmanville were able to break the shut-out on a goal by Shawn McFadyen, assisted by Kent Vanderhey- den andjKevin Farrow. Ridgetown Ridgetown scqred two more goals in period three to leave the game at 7 -1., Jastffl Hiscock again made many excellent saves in net and even saved a couple of goals by helmet blocks. The third and final game was played against Little Britain on Sunday morning which was really the most competitive game for the Toros. Little Britain were able to score two goals, against Checker's Variety in the first period with Jason Hiscock in net. Again, Jason made several sensational saves to keep the score low. However, about two minutes into the 2nd period, Jason took sick and had to come out of net. This meant the Toros didn't have a goalie ! When the coaching staff asked for a parking lot by a chap with a sign on King St. We haven't heard the final tally for the day's work, but it must have totalled several hundred dollars. Most of the participants ended the day very wet and tired, but happy with the project. intriguing for the boys. The most trying part of the weekend weekend was in finding the first arena, Leisure Arena and then trying to find a suitable place to eat. The weekend was entertaining, eye-opening and lots of fun. Christian made several excellent excellent saves and only let two goals by him which were deflections deflections and probably would have been difficult to stop even with an experienced goalie. Well done Christian. In the final minute of play, Jason Kiely let a blistering shot go which landed in the net. Chris Brown picked up the assist. At the conclusion of the game the score was 4 - 1 in favour of Little Britain. I think all the parents, grandparents, and boys would agree that this was a most enjoyable weekend.
