Durhamdale House was established in 1978 and is a new concept, providing a home type of environment environment for men brought in from Whitby jail - waiting waiting to be sentenced. Residents are employed and leave under escort to parks, handling maintenance maintenance work - painting, putting up picnic tables and so on. They are responsible for maintaining maintaining gardens as well. To be employed gives the men a feeling of self worth. Many types of sports are part of the program carried out at the Centre too.
