The event was a tribute to •Senator' Jim Coyle who for several years promoted jamborees throughout the area. Thickson were with Westheuser's on Saturday evening. Mrs. Wheeler visited with her daughter on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. D. Whitbred and Mr. and Mrs. W. Mul- drew, Oshawa, spent the weekend at Sunnyside. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill called at Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer's on Saturday evening. On Thursday of last week after the senior citizen's meeting meeting at Campbellcroft, Mr. Russell White was instantly killed when crossing Road 9 at the Lions Hall. He was struck and killed by a car driven by Mary Joanne Harmer of Oshawa. No charge has been laid. Mr. and Mrs. White lived in Port Hope but were originally from Elizabeth ville where they farmed. Orono, Ontario May 30,1983. Letter to the Editor: Bowmanville's Old Home Week 125th Anniversary was here and gone and what a great week it was. With so many activities scheduled to fill the week for the young and old, it was an honour to be a part of it. It was a pleasure to work with so many co-operative people on and off stage that participated on the Country and Western Jamboree' "Salute to Country Music" and to honour "Senator" Jim Coyle for his many years dedicated dedicated to Country Music,. When you see that it brought an afternoon of enjoyment to so many people, it made all the time and effort really worthwhile and to this we say Thank You to everyone. Sincerely Fay and Glory Adams BHS Holds Annual Formal at Marina ■' ?v 9 • K, ' XÆiÆË&i À '4 A Sailor Ed Matthews was honored on Sunday with a traditional "Sail Past" at the Marina. Ed won the Darlington Cup last year, and the "Sail Past" recognizes his victory, as well as kicking off the 1983 season. STARKVILLE (Intended for last week) Mr. and Mrs. Brenton Farrow visited Sunday evening evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bamsey, Ralphie, Michelle and Andy for their annual fireworks fireworks display. On Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Trim visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rowe and Tiffany in Bowmanville to celebrate Dianne's birthday. On Monday, Miss Sonya Brachvogel, Leskard and Mr. Ross Stutt, Orono spent the day with Miss Tanya Fonk. Mr. and Mrs. Sia Hallowell visited Monday evening with • Mr. and Mrs. Ewart Robinson. On Tuesday morning, Patrick Woods, a Grade 7 student at the Pines Senior Public School, left with his classmates to spend this week in Ottawa, touring places of interest, Shiloh U.C.W. Meeting On Wednesday evening May 18th, the Shiloh U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Ellen Farrow with 24 ladies and baby Adam present. President Mrs. Ruth Andrews was in charge of the meeting which opened with everyone singing the old hymn "Will Your Anchor Hold." Devotional was taken by Edna Dobson who read the "Steps of a Good Man" and Ada Hallowell who read a poem. Reports were read by Gloria Todd and Margaret Todd. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Rowena Tizzard, Pat Windatt and Joan Murphy for their May birthdays. A bus trip was discussed but it was decided to wait until fall before going anywhere. A pot luck dinner is planned at Sniloh United Church for Sunday, June 5th at the noon hour, We hope that everyone in the community can attend. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, June 15th at Shiloh United Church. A suent auction is planned for this meeting. Our meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction. A lively cake contest was conducted by Mary Caswell and won by Pat Windatt, Margaret Todd then held a draw on a ceramic pie plate which was won by Annette Savery. Our hostess Ellen then served a delicious lunch of sandwiches and squares and everyone enjoyed a social time. • Sr ^ - J ~An It was an impressive looking group outfitted in their evening best who attended the annual Bowmanville High School formal Friday night at the Port Darlington Marina. The night's activities included a smorgasbord dinner followed by an evening of dancing. Two of the female students responsible for organizing the gala event are shown above with their escorts from left: Janet McKnight and Mark Rutherford and Susan Housley and Doug Dilling. Students and members of the BHS staff gathered at Port Darlington Marina Friday night for the annual school prom.
