On Sunday afternoon at Soper Creek it was a different story as they came out on the short end of an 18 to 2 score against a strong Whitby club. It was a case of too many errors as the inexperience of the almost entirely rookie team couldn't put tilings together. together. The pitching of Scott Bate who is just up from midget was a real surprise as he pitched six strong innings ana should have deserved a much better fate as most of the runs against him were unearned, Scott Bate, Dan Miller, and Lome Finney each had two hits for Bowmanville. Scott Michelson with a double and Dave Passant a single rounded rounded out the Merchants' hitting. It was almost a repeat performance performance in Peterborough on Monday night. Bowmanville out hit the Tigers but errors once again played a big part in the game as the Merchants were beaten 12 to 5. Gerry Tu'skey started on the mound and took the loss, but poor fielding led to his downfall as most of the runs scored against him were unearned. Dave Passant came on in relief and gave up two runs over the last four innings. Gibson, Miller and Michelson each had two hits, with Dadson, Treen, d'Entremant, Passant, and Murphy getting one each. The Merchants play in Ajax at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday night and then return home to play a double header against Oshawa Sunday afternoon at Soper Creek Park, Game time 1:00 p.m. Let's get out and give these young ball players your support, BOATS 12'Alum $ 595. 14'Alum 16' Alum. 795.
