On Sunday afternoon Sam and Mabel Cawker of Nestleton attended the delightful reception and tea held in honour of Stafford and Bessie Cosway of Brooklin, who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. The setting for the "festive" occasion was the spacious lawn at Cluaran Farms, R.R. 1, Oshawa -- the home of son John and Maureen Cosway a "host" of relatives and friends were on hand to greet them and offer "very best wishes" to this popular couple for the future. The beautifully appointed table was groaning with a lovely assortment of food - centred centred by the attractively decorated anniversary cake which was cut by Stafford and Bessie and served to their guests. So glad we didn't miss the party -- it was a "terrific" "terrific" event! Our best to a grand couple for many more happy years. This past Monday evening Grahame and Neta Fish, Nestleton, enjoyed enjoyed supper with her daughter Audrey and Jim Leishman and family family of Reaboro. Friday evening they attended Yelverton barbecue -- a sumptuous meal -- then they went to Peterborough Peterborough to visit Neta's daughter Mrs. Marlene Bannister and family. To wind up a busy week-on Saturday night, Grahame and Neta travelled to Golden Park on Rice Lake to help celebrate a birthday, at Larry and Dorothy Smith'S trailer - it was their daughter Penny's 15th birthday/ Happy belated birthday from the area friends to teenager Penny. Eastern Star Celebrates 35th Anniversary f Ten members from this area attended the "gala" anniversary celebration on Thursday evening, June 9th, commencing commencing with a roast beef dijuier served in St. John's Presbyterian Church hall by the Ladies' Aid. As members and guests entered the church a Carnation was received by each - given out by Elsie Wilbur. While assembling Carol Morrow played appropriate appropriate music on the piano - fine renditions of some years ago - in regular Morrow style. Some 70 dinner guests sat down to a delicious meal with W.P. Sam Cawker acting as M.C. After the toast to the Queen and 0 Canada was sung, Marjorie McCombe, P.M. asked the blessing. A cordial welcome was extended by the M.C. and the head table was introduced by W.M. Joyce Taylor. The toast to Grand Chapter proposed by Margaret Cornish, P.M. was responded to by P.G.M; Olive Avery. The toast to Blue Ray members was proposed by the first matron of the Chapter Myrtle Palmer, and the reply given by W.M. Joyce Taylor who concluded concluded the ceremonies by asking the Charter and Life members to stand. The Chapter meeting followed held in the Masonic Temple. After the business was completed completed the first matron and patron, Myrtle and George Palmer were given Life Memberships - the presentation made by Margaret Jeffrey P.M. After Chapter closed, in regular form, a variety variety programme was of interest interest convened by Mabel Cawker, P.M. The "four tunettes" -- Bonnie Bonnie Bell, Florence Fralick, Bonnie Ball- ingal and Joan Aldred from Scugog Island sang unaccompanied. A very talented "foursome" and they surely give music soul, warmth and feeling. Each past matron and patron were asked to give a "highlight" of their year. This proved interesting and provided a little humour as well. A truly intriguing anniversary anniversary band was next item on the programme - composed composed of ten members. A fun thing! ! I believe Ozark Ike (Norm Mairs) really captured the hearts of all present. To wind up the programme programme the four tunettes tunettes sang once again - bringing to a close a most enjoyable entertainment. entertainment. The girls received a tremendous ovation when they finished finished singing. The refreshment committee committee -- comprising of Elsa Bongard, Judy Mitchell, Mitchell, Stella Dennis and Kay Walker excelled themselves with the lovely lovely variety of foods topped off with a delicious anniversary anniversary cake.
