The councillors who will serve on the committee include Bruce Taylor, Diane Hamre and Ann Cowman. The position was advertised after Don Smith, the current CAO, announced that he was leaving the municipality this fall in order to study at the London School of Economics. Town council has agreed to a request for a sidewalk sale in downtown Bowmanville July 21,22, and 23. The sale is to be held in conjunction with a sunrise sale already approved by the municipality for July 23. The request for an expanded summer sale came from the Bowmanville Business Centre. On Saturday, May 28th, 1983, in St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville, the Reverend N.E. Schamerhorn solemnized the marriage of Bonnie Jean Lane to Barry Robert Beers. Buys Trucks At *73,360 The purchase of two works department trucks having a total value of $71,360 was approved by Newcastle council Monday night. The successful bidder for the supply of two 35,000 GVW cab and chassis was Thorncrest Ford Sales Ltd., of Islington, Ont. Approval of these vehicles was granted after town staff assured council that all manufacturers had a chance to bid on the vehicles. The lowest bidder was recommended for approval by town staff. "The specifications do not rule out any one manufacturer," said Ron Dupuis, director of public works. In reply to questions from Councillor Bruce Taylor, he also noted that the tenders had been advertised locally. Councillor Taylor pointed out that most of the bidders were not only from outside the Town of Newcastle but also from outside the Durham Region. The Reverend Mr. Smith of Bowmanville officiated at the ceremony. Music from the album of Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii was played by Clarence Ton. Mr. Bill Bouck, uncle of the bride, ushered the bride's mother. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pruner of Newcastle and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Colder of Newcastle. Given in marriage by her mother and father, the bride wore a flowing, formal white gown which featured a train, a stand up lace collar with attached and bust line cape. Her head piece was a tiara of white roses, carnations and baby's breath and she carried a bouquet of pink, blue and white flowers. Miss Janet Pruner, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Janet wore a formal pink taffita gown with square neckline and puffed, three quarter sleeves. Her flowers matched the bride's bouquet. The best man was Bob McCormack. The groom and his attendant wore grey tuxedos with ascot ties. A wedding dinner and dance was held at St. Francis of Assisi Hall, Newcastle. The bride's mother received the guests in a street length dress of polyester with double V neckline assisted by the groom's mother who wore a beige street length dress. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in her formal gown of white chiffon with inset pearls which featured mutton sleeves, embroidered lace ruffle around the bodice, and a waterfall train. A headpiece and finger-tip veil was of matching material and she carried a cascade bouquet of roses, stephanotis and ivy. The maid of honour was Miss Valerie Brownell, and the bridesmaids were Miss Sandy Dawson and the bride's sisters Misses Elizabeth and Valerie Jager. Best man was Mr. Ray Nyhuis, and the ushers were the brother of the groom Mr. Jon Burman, Chris Dunn and Wayne Nyhuis. The flower girl was Miss Kelly Jankovich. The mother of the bride received the guests at the reception held at Odessa Hall, Oshawa, in a formal dusty rose gown, assisted by the groom's mother who wore a formal jersey knit gown of raspberry, colour, with ms^ch- ing jacket of net. Leaving for a honeymoon in Jamaica, the bride wore a white and beige tailored skirt and jacket. Mr. and Mrs. Burman are now residing in Pickering.
