Domed Stadium By Peter Parrott Newcastle's mayor said Monday that he will support efforts to build Metro Toronto's domed stadium in the Durham Region. "I believe a domed stadium in the west end of Durham, whether it is in Pickering or in Markham, will be a real plus for the municipality" Mayor Rickard said. He made this comment at a meeting of Newcastle's general purpose committee Monday. Durham's regional council has supported the principle of locating a new stadium on the east side of Toronto and has commissioned a report on this subject by regional staff. Mayor Rickard also stated that he will support the extension extension of the GO Rail system to the east side of Oshawa, with options to be kept open for further expansion into the Town of Newcastle.
