The Newcastle Colts Soccer Club was well- represented in this action but met with mixed success. By age-group the action was as follows: Squirts - On Monday, Aug. 15th, the two Newcastle Squirt teams played each other in an exciting contest which ended in a 3 -1 victory for the KofCI squad. Goal scorers for the K of C I team were Jeff Pearce, Derek Anderson and Adam Rylance. Craig Lockhart replied replied for the K of C II squad. Wednesday the K of C I boys were involved in a very tight 2 - 1 battle with Tim's Rental but managed to come out on top thanks to goals by Adam Rylance and Derek Anderson. Colin Taggart replied for Tim's. Meanwhile the K of C II was eliminated from the playoffs playoffs by the narrowest of margins, a 1 - 0 loss to Rovers whose goal came from Luke. Dragstra. Atoms - On Tuesday the two Newcastle Atom teams did battle, and an exciting contest it was too, as the K of C team finally defeated the game Kraco Contracting team 2 - 0, after two halves of overtime. Goal scorers were Brian Buma and Ricky Burns. On Thursday it was the K of C boys turn to taste defeat as' Garden Hill Sr Girls Lose Softball Title to Welcome Garden Hill Senior Girls Softball Team ended their ball season at the Kiwanis Park in Port Hope in a round robin tournament. Garden Hill ended up tied for first place in the four team League during the season's schedule and played the other top team on Saturday to start the round robin playoffs. Game one was played well by both teams but Garden Hill went down with the loss 12 - 5 to Welcome Court. In game two, Garden Hill came on strong to beat Dickson Carpet 39 - 16, and then on to game three, claiming claiming victory over Showtime Video 32 - 7. Final results were Welcome Court winning the championship with Garden Hill a close second, This first year team for Garden Hill worked very hard this year, working in the canteen canteen and selling draw tickets to buy their own ball pants and equipment. Mosquitoes - On Tuesday the Port of Newcastle team continued continued its unbeaten streak with a 2 -1 win over a stubborn Tyrone squad.
