Birch, spruce and maple trees grow here and provide shade for those who wanted it. A basket of dusty rose glads from the garden of Percy and Katherine Hoskin added their beauty to the site. Rev. Gordon Rutherford opened the service with a reading from the Psalms and prayer. The music was led by a small number from the regular regular choir assisted by visitors from Orangeville, Mr. and Mrs. Don Symons and daughter daughter Jane. Morley Bickle was organist using his small portable portable organ. This was a very special service for Shannon Rosalie Irwin who was christened christened by Rev. Rutherford. Her parents, John and Linda were the first couple mârried by Rev. Rutherford after coming here. Shannon was welcomed into the church by Caroline Byers and Lloyd Kellogg, on behalf of the congregation. Besides the promises made by the parents, the congregation pledged their support of both the parents and Shannon. "Is there really a God?" was the theme of the morning message. message. Rev. Rutherford had spent the previous week with teenagers at a camp at Golden Lake and was confronted with demanding questions, the main one .being, "If there is a God, why is the world in such a mess?" The offering was received by Clarence Nichols, John Connelly, George Tufford and Allin Osborne. Next Sunday's service will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mercer with Rev. R. Bartlett as guest speaker. Because renovations are not completed at the church, Bible study will be held at the South Hope fireball this coming week. Appreciation Appreciation was expressed to Mr. and Mrs. Thompson for the use of their home and the usual coffee time followed the service. service. A new group is being formed for Welcome church sponsored sponsored by the U.C.W. but open to all who care to come. Plans are tentative as yet but it is suggested a Wednesday evening session would be held twice a month. It is intended as an opportunity for women to meet and type of program will evolve as each woman tells of her interests and needs. As an active learning group its name will be chosen, as a definite program is decided. decided. Anyone interested may get in touch with Margo Franke, present public relations relations person. There was a very happy party on Sunday, August 21, at the home af-Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Thorndyke when about 40 handicapjied people with their councillors gathered there.
