4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 5,1983 W.I. Hosts Party for Victoria Manor Residents zqiumq BETHANY The Bethany Women's Institute Institute visited the Victoria Manor in Lindsay on Monday afternoon Sept. 26th, and hosted a party for those with September birthdays. Mrs. Vincent Jackson, W.I. President welcomed the residents residents to the party, and a happy hour of old songs and hymns was enjoyed. Mrs. Thomas Jennings led the singing along with the W.I. choir, and did several violin numbers. Mrs. Viola Thorn- dyke was pianist. Several of the residents enjoyed a dance with the W.I. members. Gifts were given to the "birthday folks" and refreshments were served, culminating a jolly party. The United Church was a beehive of activity Sunday morning. 10 a.m. found some of the male members of the congregation setting up Barbeques on the lawn while indoors, in the kitchen, the ladies were busy with the many tasks which precede any function involving the serving of food! 11:30 found a well-filled sanctuary (including many newcomers who were most welcome) to share in the hour of worship. Immediately following the service the congregation were invited to go downstairs to view the many splendid displays displays depicting the work of the various organizations of the Church, both in the community community and worldwide - an opportunity opportunity to really "discover the Church" which was the theme of the function. Bright sunshine and mild temperatures added to the pleasure of the outdoor feast of juicy hamburgers and sizzling sizzling weiners, topped off by sampling the great variety of finger desserts prepared by the ladies. Everyone was most gratified gratified with the success of the event and are indebted to Rev. Lindsay and other committee members for the careful planning planning and preparations.
