His career in boat racing began on Lake Scugog. Jerry and Syd Goddard were honored recently as the only two individuals who have competed in all nine Lake Ontario Power Boat Marathons. Jerry drives "Miss Rislone Canada", a 17 foot, 150 horsepower Mercury Outboard, reaching speeds up to 80 miles per hour, faster when you get tipped into the water. HOCKEY -- The Port Perry MoJacks will be at home to the Lindsay Muskies this Sunday at the Scugog Arena. Bowmanville Eagles open their season at the local arena, also on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against Port Hope. REPAIRS -- Up to $3,500 will be spent by the Town of Newcastle to replace 30-year old structural supports in the Bowmanville Arena. The arena's support system was found to be in good condition by two consulting firms with a few exceptions. WINS AWARD -- Doug Crough of the Newcastle Lakers baseball team was presented an award as their most outstanding pitcher at their recent awards night. Flying Dutchmen Win Shoppers Down Clinic Non-contact weekend games saw the Flying Dutchmen Dutchmen defeat United Drug by a 3 -1 margin to move into a first place tie in 'A' Division. John Rowlands opened the scoring at the 2:14 mark of the opening stanza to give the Dutchmen the early lead. Richard Hall fired his 3rd of the season to tie the game as time ran out in the first period. After a scoreless middle frame, Doug Taylor on a pretty play set-up by John Robinson, fired what proved to be the winner for the Dutchmen. Dutchmen. A third goal was awarded awarded to Wayne Trigg who turned in a solid two-way game on a rare call when United were guilty of throwing a stick as Trigg was closing in on an empty net. The late game left fans wondering how long it will be until Courtice Auto Wreckers score their first goal as they have been held scoreless through six consecutive periods this season. Courtice were drubbed 13 - 0 by the high flying San Marino Deli squad. San Marino, applying relentless relentless pressure, fired 58 shots at a weary Barry Roberts while his mates got a mere 15 attempts at the Marino cage.
