I 10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, November 2.1983 Section Two Ladies Hold Bee to Make Special Awards Ceremony Held Recently by Legion Ladies Auxiliary Fowl Dressing ELIZABETHVILLE On Friday evening Mrs. K. Trew, Mrs. M. Gardiner, and Mrs. J. Peacock attended a social evening at Grafton for Mrs. Marion Minifie and Jackie Neun, who have been chosen by Cobourg Presbytery Presbytery Conference to attend Over Seas Experience for Canada Mission Education in Cuernavaca, Mexico; a national project of a division of World Outreach of United Church of Canada. A program was enjoyed following following a presentation of money, a gift from the presbytery presbytery of Cobourg to assist financially with the trip. On Sunday, our guest speaker was Rev. Bill Stephenson who spoke on "Why?" Why are we here because we aren't there, a very interesting talk. Rev. Rutherford was on his charge speaking for their anniversary. anniversary. The choir sang. Mr. Hancock and Mr. Quantrill took up the offering. Rev. Stephenson came early enough so that he could welcome welcome us at the door. Coffee was served at the close. Mrs. W. Boyko and family attended as Rev. Stephenson is their minister on the Hastings charge. On Monday, the ladies met to finish up the course in "More cents for more Dollars." There were a good number turned out. We made four different recipes, Lasagna, made with soybeans to control the cost. Next Chicken Chow Mein fried in a wok along with various vegetables. vegetables. Next Ratatouille pie made with egg plant, zucchini, onions, with cheese, eggs and milk in a pastry shell. Last, some ladies made some rosette cookies that they had seen made at the Ex. We did enjoy the course and thanked the leaders. Our achievement day is at Orono in November. On Tuesday, the ladies met for a bee to make the dressing for our supper on Wednesday at Mrs. B. Wheeler's home. Mrs. Peacock, Mrs. Trew, Mrs. Quantrill and Mrs. Thickson were making it. Senior citizens met last Thursday with a fair crowd. Next meeting will be our birthday meeting. Mrs. Westheuser visited Mr. and Mrs. Thickson on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. D. Whitbred have been at Sunnyside for a few days preparing for winter and doing some papering, etc. Don is on holiday. The Peacock boys were home on the weekend. Miss Diane Beatty, Hamilton, spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Beatty, recently. Miss Wendy White, Toronto, and friend, were home Wednesday evening and attended attended the supper at the church. There have been several flu attacks in the area. I see that Mrs. Hodgins has come home from work. Mrs. Burton is teaching for a while replacing someone having an operation. Mrs. N. Gardiner is also busy filling in for those who . are sick. Robert Mercer had a fall while out motorcycling on the weekend and is home for a day or two. During a special awards ceremony last week at the Bowmanville Legion Hall, Audrey Bate (centre) was presented with a life membership in the Branch 178 Legion Ladies Auxiliary to recognize recognize the contribution she has made to the organi zation. The Branch 178 Legion Ladies Auxiliary 38th birthday party last week was the occasion on which several members were presented with commemorative commemorative service medals. In second place was Dale Beam of Port Hope, left, an A & P employee here, who won $250 and in third spot was George's Men's Wear, not represented, $150.
