I McGregor Minor Bontoms Gome to Trenton Sat., Nov. 6, Bowmanville Minor Bantams travelled to Trenton for a preview of end of season playoffs. Bowmanville had the first big rush and chance of the day as Mark Tripp broke in alone, but came up snort and Trenton replied at 11:54 of the first period with their first. A second followed before the end of the period. Trenton was to score one in the second and two more in the third. This score was indicative of play as the Bowmanville players looked sluggish and lack lustre. Good goaltending by Burke Lush and Darrin Bunker was the only bright spot. Maybe next time, fellows. Next home game is Saturday, Saturday, Nov. 13th against Port Perry. Ken Wright Haulage Selects Split with Two Oshawa Squads The Oshawa NHL defeated the Bowmanville's novice selects 5 - 2 on Nov. 4. Robert Acardi and Clancy Cole each scored twice for Oshawa and Edward Golding added the single. An outstanding effort by Bowmanville's Jeff White who scored both goals. On Sunday, Nov. 6, Wright Haulage travelled to Newcastle Newcastle to play Oshawa's Lake Vista. In the first period, Chris Aitken opened the scoring to give Bowmanville the lead. Later in the period, Collin Taggart put the second goal away, assisted by Chris McCarthy. Oshawa had lots of opportunities opportunities in this period but couldn't get it past our goalkeepers goalkeepers Brent Knapp and Sarah Couch. Halfway into the second period, Jeff White and Some good things happened for the Toros in this game, ' there were a number of good passing plays and in parti- ' cular one very good play to , move the puck out of the ' Bowmanville end. Congratulations Congratulations boys. When you do this ' all through the game, you will be a threat to many teams. 1 The Toros took a 1 - 0 lead when Brad Lyons fed a pass to Ian Knight who scored a good goal. However, the Red Wings came back with three goals when the Toros' defence either gave the puck away or were unlucky. Phillip Green, Jeremy Laird and Paul Hindeman then combined to bring the puck out of the Toros end in a text-book style and made the score 3 - 2. Nicky . Dennis and Jim Pithie scored goals to put the Toros ahead. However, it was soon 4 - 4. Mark Pierce put the Toros ahead again but the Red Wings put another two goals in the Toros net before Jeremy Laird and Jeff Rohr combined to score the equalizer, another text-book play. Cecil Stephenson played well breaking up many plays in the centre ice area. Pee Wee 2s Lose to Pickering The Toros lost this game eight but the boys showed once again that they can skate with the opposition that they have just as much skill but have not yet learned to play together. Bowmanville scored first when Nicky Dennis came off the bench on his first shift, stole the puck off a Pickering player and skated in from the blue to score on a well executed executed play. Pickering pressed hard after this and a little later scored on a nice tic tac toe passing play. Jeff Rohr put the Toros ahead again when he seized an opportunity to use his quick release close to the goal. Just after this, Marc Pierce made a superb pass to allow the Toros to have another shot on the Pickering goal. This did not result in a goal but is the kind of team play that the boys are trying to develop. Pickering tied the score but the Toros soon went ahead when Phillip Green chased a puck into the corner, took a good look and saw Brad Lyons. Brad wasted no time popping the puck into the net. Bowmanville were short handed a little later and Pickering once again equalised, equalised, however Nicky Dennis put the Toros ahead again shortly after but it was to be for the. last time. Pickering scored four times before Paul Hindeman scored the Toros fifth goal. The Pickering boys managed managed to create a good number of three on ones and three on nothings and although Robert Romano showed that he is developing a quick glove hand, Pickering simply had too many good scoring chances, some of which inevitably inevitably resulted in goals. 4» NOW SPORTS The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, November 9,1983 9 Hunt's Defeat Sports Castle and Bow.
