Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacKenzie holidayed in Great ' Britain recently and among the centres visited was Pontypool, Wales. Pontypool is a mining town of 100,000 population. Ken and Cathie were introduced to the mayor who presented the couple with a gift and pin. A letter and gift were given to the MacKenzies to be presented to Reeve George Neals on behalf of the citizens of Pontypool. This presentation will take place at the 10 a.m. service this Sunday, November 13th, in the Pontypool United Church. Members of council will be invited to attend. The Remembrance Day Service in Pontypool United Church was well attended with very few empty pews. The Youth Group and the members of the Sunday School took part in the service. The former sang "Land of our Birth" during the offering, followed by an acrostic "On Christian Community" and the song "It's A Small World". Christopher Turner, who had attended Camp Quin-Mo-Lac this past summer, gave an account of his experience. Following the singing of 2 songs by the Sunday School, Dorothy Turner presented Attendance Awards to a number of girls and boys. (Names to be given later). Rev. Lindsay's sermon "The Competitive Edge - OR - The UnGodly Fallacy" was most interesting - as are all his sermons. A Service of Remembrance was held at the Bethany Cenotaph on Sunday at 1:45 p.m. with representatives from Pontypool in attendance. Our comedy "See How They Run" is to be presented in December in our Bowmanville High School auditorium. On Monday, November 7, the tenth annual Technical awards assembly was held in the auditorium. The guest speaker was Mr. Vincent of Durham College. He spoke of the great concern of most students: job prospects. A good education is the first step and some post-secondary education is welcomed by most employers. Although Mr. Vincent stressed a well- rounded education with English, Math and Sciences, he particularly stressed computer literacy. After this interesting talk, the awards were presented. The glittering array of trophies on the platform was proof of B.H.S.'s endorsement of the technical subjects. Poppies were handed out to the students in the early wéek for the Remembrance Day ceremonies at B.H.S. The band will play and there will be speakers during the assembly. We hope that you, too, will be paying tribute to our honoured war comrades on Friday, November 11.
