ENI000 Dutchman Bantams 66 Player of the Week 99 SCOTT PAGE NO. 7 Right Wing Bowmanville Tops 200 in Tournament Win In their 29th game of the season, the first goal scored by the Toros last Saturday morning marked No. 200 for the team and by the time the day was over they added 14 more to their total to win the tournament by virtue of a 4 - 0 win over Lindsay, a 9 - 0 trouncing of Uxbridge and an exciting overtime victory against a very tough Ganano- que team. In a carbon copy of their overtime win in Cobourg the Toros drew first blood on a goal by Brian Noble at the 9:38 mark of the first period from linemates Chris Beck and George Pithie. Gananoque tied the score just over three minutes later and went ahead by one on the lone goal scored in the second. The Toros outshot their opposition 31-9 throughout the game but a very hot Gananoque Gananoque goalie frustrated their efforts until the 3:12 mark in the third when Noble tied the game with his 2nd goal again assisted by Beck and Pithie and forcing the overtime. With the five minute sudden death elimination format the teams were down to four a side when Chris Beck, who had been kept off the scoreboard all day, fired a beautiful backhand past the opposition goalie. Jamie Lever earned the assist on the goal when he slapped the puck out of the air to Beck when the opposition was trying trying to relieve the pressure by icing the puck. Point getters in the two earlier games were Brian Noble six (he also scored his 55th of the year in the game against Gananoque), Gananoque), John Romano six (scored his 20th of the season on Friday against Port Hope), Chris Shmyr five, Mike Gallant Gallant three, George Pithie ' three, Chris Beck three, Mike Colwell two, Scott Page 1, Mike Colwell two, Scott Page one, Glen Campbell one, Jamie Downing one, Bob McArthur one, Kelly Armstrong Armstrong one. Congratulations on three great games of hockey! Two other league games were played on the weekend a 13 - 2 rout of Port Hope Friday night and a 5 - 5 squeaker against Cobourg on Sunday evening. After three tournaments tournaments in three weekends the team will take a break until Christmas when they travel to Hespler to play five games starting on the 23rd. Closer at hand in a exhibition double header on the 7th at Darlington Darlington Arena beginning at 7 against Pickering and then at 8:30 against the L.N.H.L. Bruins. / B.H.S. NEWS By Janice Scto, Editor Editor Janice Seto In the month of December, Bowmanville High School goes Christmas I The first indications of our annual Christmas spirit was the Band performing in the Bowmanville Bowmanville Santa Claus parade and the announcements for the Christmas Concert. On December 3, the Band marched marched in the Tweed parade. Although Although some people had no idea where Tweed was (the popular thought was: somewhere somewhere east of here), the Band knew the music and played it well. The week of December 7th's highlight is the presentation of our play. "See How They Run" was written in the 1940's and is a comedy of errors. This whimsical charade is set "somewhere in England" and features romance, plots of revenge, and a cast of comic characters. B.H.S. students have been very busy this week selling tickets, posting posters, posters, passing playbills and programs, and perfecting changes. The public is encouraged encouraged to enjoy the performances performances on December 7, 8, 9, and 10. The Editor hopes to have a review of the play in next week's edition and to see you there. B.H.S. SPORTS By Sam Laskaris The Bowmanville High School boys' basketball teams commenced their Lake Ontario Secondary School Association regular season schedule last Monday. The Pickering Trojans provided the opposition and were successful in winning all three games. Although all three B.H.S. teams lost their home opener, the teams are bound to improve and win their fair share of games in the talented Division 1 League. The midget team lost their encounter by a score of 89 ■ 44. Shawn Healy was the top point-getter for B.H.S., collecting collecting 15 points, Chris Beck netted netted 11 points and Brian Noble chipped in witli eight points to assist the Bowmanville cause. The junior team came the closest to winning, losing only by five points - 45 - 40, Hod Tukker and Jay Kelly each had 10 points for B.Il.S, followed followed by Brett Blundell with eight points, The senior team went down to defeat by a score of 42 - 20 to a much taller Pickering team. The height differential was not much of a factor in the first half. Both teams rebounded well but their shooting percentages percentages were very poor. As a result the score was deadlock at 14 -14 at halftime. In the second half, Pickering Pickering began to take the play to Bowmanville. Combine that with the fact that there were a few rookie mistakes and Pickering appeared to be coasting to a victory. Steve Brown potted 10 points for Bowmanville and George Wind chipped in with an additional additional six. This week will be very busy for all three teams as they play two league games. Yesterday Bowmanville hosted hosted the o'Neill Redmen from Oshawa and tomorrow they will host the Henry Street Hawks from Whitby. Avonlea Rink Wins Trip The Bowmanville Curling Club hosted its 2nd Annual Mixed Open Bonspiel on December 2 and 3, 1983, and awarded a trip to Las Vegas to the winning rink from the Avonlea Curling Club. The Avonlea Rink members were Bill Sluchinsky, Debbie Collins, A1 Parberry, and Colleen Neely. Finishing second was another out of town rink from Unionville with Skip Russ Meckling. Playing the final game on very keen and true ice, Bill Sluchinsky, skip of the Avonlea Avonlea Rink, threw his last stone to make a clean take-out on two of Unionville's three shot rocks which could have forced an extra end playoff. On completion of the Bonspiel, Bonspiel, Michael Trenton, representing representing La bait's Breweries Ltd. awarded the Avonlea Rink trophies for their victory and on behalf of Bowmanville travel with the grand prize trip to Las Vegas. The final standings for those teams which finished in the prizes were as follows: 1st - Avonlea, 2nd - Unionville, 3rd • Orillia, 4th - Oshawa, 5th - Sutton, 8th - Bowmanville, 7th Oshawa Golf, 8th - Welland, 9th - Bowmanville, The out of town rinks, whether in the prizes or not all commented on the excellent roast beef served Saturday night and the keen and consistent consistent ice. Again, tills bonspiel has been made possible by good sponsors Lahntt's Breweries Ltd,, Bowmanville Travel, Delta Chelsea Inn, and King Edward Hotel, and the Sheraton Sheraton Hotel.
