Christmas Party A good crowd of Orono U.C.W. ladies attended the annual meeting and dinner, held Thursday, Dec. 15, in the main hall of the church. The tables were beautifully decorated decorated by the ladies of unit 5, Leskard, and were laden with tempting goodies. Following the dinner, the Girl Guides and Brownie groups came in to entertain the ladies with Christmas Carol singing. Rev. Lois Brown conducted the business meeting and each unit leader filed their yearly reports. Very interesting and excellent reports of the activities activities throughout the year, included included catering, quilts, donations donations to many worthy causes, etc. Donna Scott led in the devotional "Preparation lor Christmas" with Joyce Cowan, Thelma Vagg, Lynn Rodd, Loma Atkens and Betty Chatterton assisting. Betty Chatterton gave a very meaningful "In Memorium" for departed members of 1983. Doreen Wood gave the treasurer's treasurer's report and reported a very excellent bank balance, and successful year. The proposed proposed budget for 1984 was accepted and Lois wished everyone a happy and joyous festive season. The hall stage was beautifully decorated with a tree and lights, by our lady members, Bev. Wakefield and Eileen Stevens. Results of the card party were High Lady - Norma Moffat, Low Lady - Myrtle Wood, High Gent - Alex Moffat, Low Gent - Jim McGill, Most Lone Hands - Don Stevens. Lucky draws - Carlos Tamblyn and Myrtle Wood. Next card party - Jan. 11, 1984. 4T Club Christmas Party Approximately 70 members sat down Thursday evening, Dec. 15 to a very tasty, full course turkey dinner in the Complex Hall. Christmas tree lights, and decorations added greatly to the party atmosphere atmosphere and everyone enjoyed the delightful pliim pudding and mince tarts for dessert. There were three birthdays observed this month, but due to the festive season, we did not have our regular birthday cake. Following dinner we were • entertained by the Girl Guides and Brownie troops, singing Christmas Carols and they were followed by the Grade XIII students of Clarke High School, bringing Christmas music. As usual, the arrival of Santa Claus caused an exciting exciting time and the gift exchange exchange was enjoyed by all present. Our thanks to everyone who helped to make this another successful event and at this time we send our sympathy to Mrs. Olga Brough, in the loss of her husband Ross, who passed away Monday, Dec. 12, and was buried from Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Wednesday, Dec. 14. Orono United Church News Members of the Explorer group and their leader Mrs. Ross lit the fourth Candle for Advent, on Sunday morning and the children's story was given by Carol Bailey. Scripture Scripture reading was given by Larry Pooler and the choir rendered two lovely anthems, "Joy to the World" and "In a Lowly Manger Sleeping." Rev. Wright gave a very timely sermon "Fear Not", the first message from the angels, at the first Christmas. In these very troubled times, all over the world, we must keep remembering this message. There will be two Christmas Eve services, one in Leskard Church Hall at 7:30 p.m. and the other in Orono Church at 10 p.m. Christmas Day worship will be at the regular time 11:15 a.m. and families will be together together for the entire service. Lots of singing! Congratulations to the hardworking hardworking M. and S. Committees, Committees, who reported on Sunday, we have reached our goal for 1983, chairperson - Bertha White. Our annual Congregational Meeting will be Sunday, Jan. 22, beginning after a pot-luck luncheon, following the regular regular service.
