( 10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 25, Blue Ray Inspection Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Blue Ray Annual Inspection Night Several members from the Cartwright area attended Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238, Order of the Eastern Star, when district Deputy Grand Matron Betty Dowden of Whitby, paid her official visit of Inspection, held Thursday Thursday evening, January 12th in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry. Worthy Matron Elsa Bongard with the assistance assistance of Worthy Patron Chris Dennis extended a warm "fraternal" welcome to the District Deptuy Sister Betty - her husband Don - and the faithful members of Blue Ray - as well as the sisters and brothers from neighbouring Chapters who lend their support with unfailing zeal. It was a pleasure to extend a "special" welcome to Past Grand Patron Brian Lee from Whitby. During business - communications were rec'd from many sources - read by Sec'y Betsy Staniland. Folks in need were well looked after at Christmas. The shut-ins rec'd lovely boxes of cheer - many sent a note of appreciation appreciation and some a sizable sizable donation. Isn't that what benevolent really means? A caring organization! Conveners Conveners Elsie Wilbur and Margaret Jeffrey. With our heavy commitment to the Hospital Fund - we solicit the support of all members - we can all share in the satisfaction of reaching our objective. objective. Let's give it a try! Progressive Euchres are being held in many homes during the week - ■,.4 supportive effort towards our goal for the Hospital - results are: High Lady - Mary Sweetman with 64. High gent - Ken Sweetman with 66. Re-Inspection - after the completion of the Chapter work - sister Betty - in her brief summary gave much encouragement for a successful year. She mentioned those who were exceptional and gave an extra word of praise. A very fine report - indeed! Grand Officers night will be "hosted" by Blue Ray Chapter - Feb. 3rd, commencing with a pot luck supper at 5:30 p.m. Chapter meeting to be held after. Bring your favourite casserole and join the Grand Officers! Chapter closed in regular form and delicious refreshments were served - convened by Margaret Jeffrey and her able committee. As another meeting closes let us remember that the strength and prosperity of the Chapter depends on regular attendance of each member - taking an active part in fulfill- , ing the obligations of the Order. The officers alone cannot carry the whole load. The privilege privilege of membership includes responsibility on the part of all members. In this mixed up world - promoting happiness - kindness and consideration is a must. Let us strive to do better! Nestleton United church Although the cold weather remains very steady with no let up - a good attendance of hardy folks were on hand Sunday morning for worship. Rev. Dale Davis presented an excellent message entitled, "The First congregational congregational meeting", The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was observed - those assisting assisting the minister were: Messrs. Lawrence Malcolm, Malcolm, Ralph Sadler, Norman Mairs, Victor Malcolm and Grahame Fish. A splendid number of Sunday School children were present to hear the minister's story. A quintet sang the beautiful beautiful sacred number "The Lord's My Shepherd" using the Crimmond tune - Regenia Walker taking a portion of the selection as a solo. Our organist - Gwen Malcolm. Malcolm. At the close of the service a sumptuous pot luck luncheon with plenty of variety was enjoyed by all. It was good to see a number of newcomers join with us. Rev. Dale and Anita Davis were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary anniversary on Sun.-Jan. 22 and Bernice Mairs and Ralph Sadler made a presentation to them from the congregation in honour of the occasion - concluding with all singing "Hapy Anniversary". Our "warmest wishes" for many more to Dale and Anita. Official Board Meet. An Official Board meeting of the Black- stock Pastoral Charge was held in Nestleton United Church this past week with a good attendance. Refresh-, ments were served at the close of the UCW. Get Well Our thoughts go out to Joe Wygerde - a fine resident of Nestleton - who has been in Western Hospital, Toronto for well over three weeks. He has been having the Dialysis treatment re- his kidneys - and is now much improved. Members of the family visit him every day - wife Rika travels to see hime four days a week - and his daughter Nancy (who is near the city) goes in three days during during the week - so that he has company every day. It would be appreciated if friends and neighbours neighbours dropped Joe a card with a few lines to cheer him up. Our "very best" to Joe for good health soon. Caesarea Community Church The usual attendance for Sunday morning. One 84 year old lady in Caesarea never misses a Sunday - regardless of the "frigid" weather. Now! that is an example of a real dedicated Christian - she puts the rest of us to shame. We do warmly commend her,! Rev. W.H. Crawford, Crawford, D.D. read from 1st book of Kings 18: 30. Theme - "How near are you to God?" Mrs. Crawford - organist. Birthday Celebrated A good friend Ruth Proutt, Nestleton, celebrated celebrated her birthday on Sunday, Jan. 22. Many called to wish her well and several phone calls added to her pleasure. Our belated "Happy Birthday" to Ruth from friends within the area. Nestleton Presbyterian Church An average attendance attendance on a cold, clear Sunday morning. Rev. Fred Swann continued his discussion based on the parables of Jesus - theme - "The reception that is given to the hearing hearing of God's word and our stewardship of all the good things he has given us."
