The story for the children was an introduction to the sermon for he talked with them about what they would ask for, if they could have anything they wished. Then he told them of Soloman's choice of a gift. In his sermon he told of the life of Solomon and of some of the modern excavations with proof of the Biblical account of his wealth and many gifts. He spoke, too, of the power often exerted in partnership with persons of lower principles, and even with his great wisdom, Solomon's lofty ideals were weakened by his foreign wives.
