WESLEYVILLE NEWS Sunday was only February 12th, yet it felt almost like April and made you feel like having a look at young trees to see how the buds are doing. It was foggy enough to hide some of the dirty look of the shrunken snow banks and bare black fields. Elder Lloyd Kellogg opened church service at Welcome United Church and Rev. G. Kellogg arrived soon to carry on. His story for the children was a review of the story of the Israel captivity and their dreary backsliding after being allowed to return home. His sermon was based on the story of Ezra following its reading in responsives and in scripture. scripture. The constant return of the people to wrong and evil ways was and is disheartening. disheartening. In spite of the moral leadership given by the prophets, prophets, humans then and now continue to disobey. The story, too, illustrates the power which can be felt in a whole nation by just one person, like Ezra. Two arrangements of different different type mums decorated the church. The choir's anthem was a special arrangement of Pass me not, 0 Gentle Saviour. The offering was received by Russell Baker and David Kellogg. The congregation was greeted at the door by Mr. and Mrs. D. Franke. The congregation congregation is looking forward to many events in the next few weeks. Hairy woodpeckers woodpeckers pack a lot of power in that long beak of theirs and not content with the bag of suet hanging in the flowering crab, hammered away at the trunk till bark and wood too was hanging in strings. Now the tree sports a skirt of plastic, ana only spring will tell if the hammering was fatal. It is a very lovely tree so hope it survives.
